RodneyRodriguez
they must have given tickets away.. haha! Seriously if folks don't like the product they need to quit watching! I can't stand reality TV shows so I don't watch them. I fall asleep at movies so I don't go. I'm not a hockey fan so I don't watch it. (I knoW I should because the NFL is terrible too).. catch my drift? That remote makes things easy.
arob
Well can't say the three races were not exciting.Made me think of this ..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1UjbugjIAxc...Looks like the stage racing is going to work.Is good to see people in the seats again . Hopefully TV ratings were good.
rebelracewriter
The Daytona 500 is SOLD OUT! Ummmmm, well duh.....the Daytona makeover removed 50,000 seats(like many tracks are doing)....so there's that....Don't see that as something to crow about. Back when TMS first opened they had sell outs too-----180-200,000 people.....and that was WAY before most of the stupid rules.....Now they've removed seats, blocked seats off and still don't sell out. rebelracewriter
if folks don't like the product they need to quit watching! Rodney, with that attitude then EVERYONE will end up NOT being ABLE to watch.....You really don't think viewership dropped by a substantial percentage once Jr crashed out?.....I think you know better than that. HiTech
well I guess it worked for me a little .I watched the whole race and just got sleepy in the last 30 laps .the main wreck creator number 1 car needed to chill a little in that race I like that driver but stupid was driving the car today not him .. the racing was better but cost too many cars early ..ill give it a 7 out of ten.. as for sold out it was reported the track still had over 6000 seats not sold plus ticket companies still had tickets ..and remember as reb said they removed 50000 seats .so I wont go out and say a sell out .the only draw back I see with the shootout parts it takes to long to restart the race .that add more time to the already long race .plus I like the 5 minute deal but I don't like its over if a car has to go behind the wall . some of those cars coulda made it back out and in points racing that will hurt them .maybe that's what the teams wanted it will haunt them in the end or help some in the end ..maybe a 30 minute time limit behind the wall could be better .. Chipperd93
The TV broadcast said that it was "Sold Out." Maybe they lied. I don't know. I'm just going by what was said on TV. It sure looked like a full house to me, but what do I know? I enjoyed it. Too bad there were so many cars taken out. I was pulling for the #10 car. Danica ran well all week. Unfortunately, she was taken out in one of the big crashes along with quite a few other fast cars. Oh well. Next week is a whole new ball game. Still undecided on the new rules. Hopefully, they will figure it out. If only the #1 car would get taken out a couple of times... He'd probably still drive like an idiot. LOL! RodneyRodriguez
Jay you don't give the viewers enough credit. Don't think Dale Jr is the only thing drawing people in. The #3 fans may quit watching when he goes to the garage but there are many other viewers that watch for other drivers. Many quit watching when the 48 went out and others but a good race fan which many new fans are will keep tuning in to see what happens. My point is everyone that sits here and rips the sport has plenty of other options for entertainment.. act on them and lay off of this one that still is entertaining to many other people. HiTech
I am a jr fan . but he cant race forever and is getting close to retirement so I am watching others I like chase I was a fan of bills and he carries himself well and big things will happen for chase and there are a couple of others I am watching I am one fan who wont turn the race off just because my driver wrecked . I knock nascar yes .now I do not watch all the races anymore too many cookie cutters . I agree with rod every driver who crashes out has fans that may turn the race off .but in no way one driver could cost tv ratings to drop enough to holly cow .. Josh42
I watched the race from right after the wreck with Junior till the end. I did fall asleep once but I contribute that to doing yard work all morning and I was worn out. It did look like a packed house in the stands which is good, doesn't matter if they removed 50,000 seats they were still full. It's the Daytona 500 they should be sold out. Its just like Indy Car they have crummy attendance all year but sell out the Indy 500. I only saw one segment thing but didn't really pay attention to it. The 5 minute clock thing is confusing, I think if the car goes to garage area at a super speedway they should give them 10 to 15 minutes to fix the car back there before saying your out. It showed yesterday didn't matter how beat up your car was you could still run up front. If they would of had a wreck with 25 to go with the way that pack was all bunched up they might of only had a couple cars running at the end. The race was good was actually nice to see names up front you don't normally see. Now Daytona is Daytona anything can happen and will happen. The real 2017 NASCAR season starts this weekend in Atlanta.
RodneyRodriguez
5 minute thing will need to be reworked. Lots of cars got the shaft on that one Sunday. I enjoyed the old days of racing too, and miss them, locally too. Although it is good to not have cars in the top 10 that are 3-7 laps down. I think that the biggest problem with the "5 minute" rule (overlooked by NASCAR) is the millions of dollars spent by the sponsors who get cheated out of the exposure they are paying for. For this reason if no other, I believe there will be an "adjustment" made to that rule in short order. No sponsors. no race cars. We will see. toyotatim
What a cool race. This was like watching 3 races in one. Exciting from the drop of the first green flag. Give it time, the 5 minute deal will catch on. I think some of it has to do with the drivers council. I am nearly 100% positive the drivers came up with this because they dont want to go make laps without a chance to win. I understand the maximum points deal, but listen to their comments, they rarely make up many points. There are exceptions, but not really for the most part. They want to get on their helicopter and get out of there as soon as the can if they cant win. Human nature. They may never admit it, but this is the way it is, they just dont want to piss of their sponsors. It pains a driver to circle the track way off pace. If this is one for them, so be it. The sponsor losing exposure is debatable. Often, they get increased exposure when they wreck and are in the garage. Torn up sheet metal sells man, that is why we love to hear the metal grinding and sparks flying.

arob
I actually like the 5 minute rule.Keep yellows from flying due to pieces falling off of returned wrecked cars.I thought I heard them say that average positions gained by repaired cars was +2. That is more than compensated for by the segment points.I just hope wrecks are not the unintended (intended?) consequence of segment points.Time will tell. HiTech
well a simple rule car can not rejoin a race with out all panels mounted solid no tape ons must be solid .that will fix the yellows from flying parts . then they don't have to have this 5 minute deal .teams should have a time limit behind the wall instead ..any position gained after your car is wrecked adds up .sponsors want their cars on the track .and if drivers don't like just going in circles .then get out of racing I have done it many times just for the point or points and for my sponsors did I enjoy racing like that not on your life mad most of the time
rebelracewriter
So I guess I'm no longer entitled to an opinion.......Everyone else is right and I'm wrong......Interesting! If everyone who has been told "quit watching" actually did that ratings would tank farther and faster than a rock in the ocean.....Then sponsors leave......Then tv broadcasts stop.....and you're all watching on PPV......Alrighty then.... Remember people laughed and ridiculed me when I said local pavement racing would kill itself too.....and where are we now.
chrisdavid
I was very curious about the TV rating for this years 500. Here is what I found: USA Today: The broadcast of Kurt Busch’s victory had a rating of 6.6. with an average viewership 11.922 million, Fox announced Monday evening. The rating was equal to last year, although the average broadcast audience in metered markets was up 5%. The race had a share of 15, meaning 15% of the televisions in use were tuned to the race. Viewership peaked (14.031 million viewers) between 6:15-6:30 p.m. ET as Busch held on for the his first victory in 16 attempts. For reference, the OSCARS scored a 22.4 rating. The average for the World Series the last several years is just under

RodneyRodriguez
Damn Jay you are way too sensitive.. sure you can have an opinion but so can all the other people. The beauty is nobody "quits watching" and we get to keep having these discussions. To each their own you love drag racing, I don't care for it; that's great we agree to disagree. As an pavement guy (matter of fact I've been called an "ass-fault" guy) I sure frowned at your prediction when I read about that but shit I have a dirt car that will be really fast on Saturday at CBS if I can drive it correctly lol but I'll give you that one my pavement car is put away with not a Texas track to race at. That being said the beauty of LSSZ is all these discussions nobody is right or wrong.
