USMTS slides into Goliad for Last Lap at Shady Oaks Speedway

GOLIAD, Texas (Feb. 15) -- This week's USMTS event will be the final race ever at the Shady Oaks Speedway as the land has been sold and it will be permanently closed. The "Last Lap at Shady Oaks" will be the final opportunity ever for drivers and fans to enjoy racing at this fantastic hidden gem.

Last year on opening night, the margin of victory was little more than a thin whisker as Rodney Sanders held off Jason Hughes in a duel of former USMTS national champions.

The current points leader in the USMTS Summit Racing Southern Region presented by Production Jars, Hughes has a win and two runner-ups, plus a third-, fourth- and a sixth-place finish in the six USMTS main events held at Shady Oaks. His new teammate, Ryan Gustin, has a pair of wins, a pair of seconds and a third to his credit, and Cade Dillard is one of only six drivers to qualify for all six USMTS features at Shady Oaks-including three straight third-place finishes here in 2016.

Dereck Ramirez has also tasted victory here, and Steven Whiteaker Jr. of nearby Corpus Christi captured the victory in the USMTS debut at the Shady Oaks Speedway in 2015.

An open practice is happening Wednesday night from 6-9 p.m. with free admission for spectators and $20 to get in the pits.

On Thursday, pit gates open at 3 p.m., grandstands open at 5:30, hot laps begin at 7:15 and racing starts at 7:30. Adult tickets are $15, kids ages 11-15 are $5 and children 10 and under are free. Pit passes are $35. A top prize of $2,000 goes to the USMTS winner with $400 to win Limited Mods.
