On Saturday, February 18, Lone Star Legacy teams will have a great opportunity to run a lot of laps at the 1.4-mile Grandsport Speedway road course located at 7555 FM 2004, Hitchcock, TX 77563 (a  few miles South of Houston).

We will be participating in what Grandsport calls a “Track Day,” which means that different groups get to alternate practice sessions all day.  Usually there are two or three groups participating and we will be our own group thanks to Mr. Huff’s ability to negotiate with the track management.  So we will have lots of track time since this is an “all day” session.

The cost is $150 per car no matter how many people come with the car.  This price is half the usual Track Day fee of $299, again, thanks to Mr. Huff’s negotiating skills.

Lone Star Legacy teams wanting to take advantage of this great opportunity need to contact James Huff or Nick Holt before Wednesday, February 15, so we can get a solid car count to give to the track.

The track’s website is https://grandsportspeedway.com/ and the Track Day information is found at https://grandsportsp...rt-track-days/,

Any current or former Lone Star Legacy legal car is invited to participate, but it will not be an official Lone Star Legacy sanctioned event - just a play day.  Therefore, technical rules will not be enforced and sway bars will be permitted.  However, the same no contact rules that we always run under will apply.

Weather forecast is showing mostly sunny with a high of 75 degrees for Saturday.  Sounds good to me!

Test and tune was.IMO.a big success.Seven legacy cars started the day and only seven finished. The guys who had never been on a road track learned fast and were turning some respectable times by days end.

I finally got my sled to where I could keep it on the pavement and out of the grass and off the wall so I'm a happy guy.

Going to do it again in March?  If so, I'll get the Legacy out of storage and set it up for road course.

Thanks, Kit

March 19th

A little setup info

The only changes that need to be made on the stock Legacy oval track car:#1-Don't go and spend a lot of money on sway bars, shocks, and other trick stuff.

Even up the front springs-360 to 400# both sides rear 180 to 200

set ride height at 4 to 4/12 both sides in front and an inch higher in the rear.

set caster at 2 to 3 degrees pos both side

camber 1 degree neg both sides.

This will give you a good starting point to work from

gear ratio from 3;70 to 4;10

feel free to call me if you have question and i'll do my best to help.

The cost to run the track is $150 payable before you go on the track

There is a mandatory drivers meeting @9 am

Are there any age requirements and is it $150 per car or per driver?

No age limit on the Legacy "Test and Tune" session this March 19th.  However, any driver who has not driven a Legacy in competition will be required to pass a basic "proof of ability" screening by Mr. Huff. If the driver is a minor, a liability release form must be completed at the track.

We prefer that folks let us know they are planning on being there so we can let the track know how many will be in our group. This helps the track figure out how many groups they need and organize and helps them come up with a logical schedule for the day.

The $150 goes to the track, not the series, and is payable upon your arrival at the track. The fee covers the car and the driver,    The fee covers all people on your team and there are no other charges.

A mandatory drivers' meeting is at 9 am, so plan on getting there in plenty of time.

The sessions go all day and are usually 20 minutes in length.  Last time we got as many sessions as we could stand - around 5 or 6 I believe.  Some of us left early, so we probably could have gone another two or three sessions.  Word of warning:  Rocky Mize declined a cold beer after his several sessions. Said his arms were so tired he couldn't pick up a 12 oz can of anything... LOL... well, I made that part up, but he did say his arms were letting him know he'd had a workout!

Now might be a good time to see about getting registered with NASA who will be sanctioning all our "official" Lone Star Legacy road course events. The two play days at Grandsport are not considered "official" events.

NASA Texas Fall Fling - October 27 @ 7:00 am - October 29 @ 6:00 pm

NASA is a large, nationwide organization and there are lots of rules and procedure we need to know.  You might want to check out their national website at https://www.nasaproracing.com/ and the NASA Texas Regional website at  https://nasatx.com/.

I know NASA has an age restriction of 16, but as I understand it, there may be a way for an obviously well-qualified driver to participate - but don't hold me to that since I am not a NASA official.

Great new Nick, :) :) :) :) :) any tips on getting registered with NASA?

James has registered several times... He might be the best source for registration tips.  Do you have his cell number?

I think it's only like $45 to register, but race entry fees are higher that.  I'll do some research on that and post.

Keep in mind that NASA does not pay purses.  They view themselves as providing opportunities for hobbyists to enjoy their hobby. They are there to make a profit and to provide safe, non-hostile environment for us hobbyists.

When I go play golf, I pay for the opportunity to enjoy a hobby on a course that I could not afford to generate for myself. We gladly pay to play on some awesome courses.  Just like NASA... sorta.
