Stephenville, TX.,(Jan. 28th, 2017) Saturday began the new life of 281 Speedway after being leased by C&S Promotions (Heather Combs & Joe Spillman). Over the past few years the track operated on a limited schedule, but once again the sound of race engines will be heard every weekend. Drivers, crew and fans all gathered for the official ribbon cutting followed by an open test-n-tune.

Combs, who comes from a real estate background, and Spillman, a long time racer in the excavating business joined forces to sponsor a couple Enduros which led the start of a new endeavor at 281 Speedway.

"We enjoyed putting on the Enduros and felt like the timing was right to take on a new project." replied the new team. "We love promoting and thinking outside of the box. Promoting a track has given us the opportunity to do this on a larger scale. Right now our biggest hurdle is wanting to do so much in a short period of time. We have had to take a step back and make a list of what has to be done and what can wait or be in progress."

C&S Promotions will give back to not only the racers, but the community as well. For the test-n-tune general admission was offered free to anyone bringing canned goods which will be donated to the local Stephenville food pantry. The second Saturday of each month will be "Back the Blue" with a dollar from each paid admission going to families of fallen officers.

"Also, for the community we will have Back the Blue the 2nd Saturday of each month. We will be donating $1 for every general admission ticket sold to a fallen police officers family that has been selected by our partnership with Texas Life Magazine. We will also set up fundraisers with schools and other nonprofit groups to receive $1 per general admission ticket sold throughout the season as well as have food drives, school supplies drives and brown Santa night."

The facilities themselves have also gotten a facelift, with new restrooms, renovation on buildings and track barriers, and loads of new clay being brought in to improve the racing surface.

Besides a few hours of hot lap sessions for racers, the days events also included the official Chamber of Commerce ribbon cutting ceremony along the front straightaway. After the racing action there was a band, featuring Shane Watson. Nearly 75 cars, in about every class imaginable, checked in, and it's only a practice.

"We are humbled by the amount of support we have had from the racing community and the folks in and around Stephenville. Every day we strive to make 281 Speedway the best track for the racing community and the fans. We look forward to bringing families back to 281 Speedway and getting the younger generations hooked on racing."

Every race will feature a different theme giving spectators the chance dress up for the nights theme while receiving entry discount. The 1/4 mile, semi-banked, clay oval will feature five classes each night: IMCA Modifieds, Southern Sportmods and Stock Cars, along with the Factory Stocks will run every week. The Street Stocks and IMCA Sport Compacts will alternate weekends.

"For the fans: We have every Saturday themed to receive admission discounts and we will have nightly sponsors giving away goodies to the fans throughout the season. We are working a frequent general admission card."

The racers have a chance to pick up a 'short block' from the track for taking home the class championship. The track will also pay a long-tow award and bonus money to the nights winner based on number of cars passed in the feature event. Teams who purchase fuel at the track will get a frequent flyers cards, of sorts.

"For the racers: We will give away 5 short blocks for Modifieds, Sport Mods, I-Stock, Street Stock and Factory Stock. Bonus money will be awarded for every car passed for the feature winner and we will pay a 100+mile tow fee. We will also have a frequent fuel buyer card."

Several special events are slated with a 200-lap Enduro opening the racing action on February 4th and second Enduro later in the season. The USAC Gulf Coast Series Midgets will also make an appearance on April Fools Day(1st).
