Rumours in the air

Yes, there are rumors all over about the possible re-opening of I-37. Sure would be a welcome development for the San Antonio-based teams.

In the meantime, I am asking that any speculation stays positive and respectful on this site.

Everyone.......After 3 long years of trying to bring racing back to San Antonio, I have been given permission to release what info I have. Before I do..I want to make clear that at ANYTIME things can change in a heartbeat..This venture has put a lot of hard working people into the mercy of all of the fans and drivers to keep this dream alive. So please...keep this positive and understand this will only be reality if we all support for the love of the sport.

A lease for I-37 has been AGREED upon. Final signatures will be handled with in the up coming days when papers are filled out. I am not going to give names of who the parties are. Dr. Gonzalez has given me permission to put out this information along with the new lease holder/promoter. Once the new director is assigned, all new information will come from them. We have been striving the past 3 years to bring racing back home. I made a phone call to the owners and they agreed to allow us to lease the track. I made another phone call and now we are here. Any information about the track will be addressed by the new promoter and race director in the very near future.

I want to thank everyone that jumped on board to make this happen. I ask everyone to please help when asked. There is a lot of work to be done. I also ask that we ALL follow through with what we all have been asking for. Once word is given that the lease is final, and work days are given, we all need to jump in and help get our home back to work

All questions about rules, pay, schedule, etc. will be answered by the promoter unless I am told to do so. I will say that the focus will be on the track and operations asap. So I ask that until they are ready to put out information, lets not get tied up in anything except getting the work done to the facility.

I will answer any question that I have the information to........

Congratulations on your reopening. I wish you great success. I know San Antonio and Austin racers can benefit mutually with a local track. I personally know the grief of loosing your home track as mine closed in 2013, Rio Grande Speedway

I am curious if you might be considering a 4 cyl class. Some tracks have them, some don't. I know Mary Ann hosted a class at what's now called CTS with some success as well as Owen did at CC Speedway and South Texas Speedway. 281 Speedway in Stevensville and Rose Bowl in Tyler are also considering adding 4 cyl cars. It makes since more now considering that is the majority of current street cars.. Unfortunately STS has dropped us because they are too busy already.

A 4 cyl class can be a great asset if promoted properly. What I have seen of late is the interest

in real race 4 cyl cars, having friends in Tyler, Waco and Corpus. Once upon a time mini stocks was a great program having success at RGS, Riverside, Beaumont, Houston, and even Heart of Texas. I heard your track also had a class that was not so restrictive. It could be again as many like to go fast but are not interested in racing Chevrolet V8s or ill handeling small cars., At least one traveling series has now lost the last place to race because they were strictly asphalt but might be open to converting to dirt.

What has become the modern definition of a 4 cyl race car is a 100% factory stock vehicle with no upgrades. That has shown some successes like CTS and CBS. That leaves out many already build older cars but if enough new ones arrive it works. At STS we had a collection of everything .

In any case congrats and god speed to your success. I know the LLMs are happy to again have a home track.

I guess people didn't read the part about waiting to ask about rules, payout, schedule, etc (ie classes).

That's great news about the track reopening when others are closing. Now's the time for everyone who said they would help out when the track needed and bring their cars out when the racing restarts to stand behind what they said.

Sorry Drew, but this is anniversary weekend. While I think it is perfect, my better half would think otherwise. Just kidding. Already had plans. Now I am in a rush trying to get a car ready. Good news is I got two sitting, but still need some TLC. Can you give me a call? I need to get the number for Industrial to work a motor for me possibly.
