Dillard rolls to Rock Rapids victory

ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa (Aug. 26) -- Cade Dillard rode into Rock Rapids, Iowa, on a roll, rocked a stout main event field and racked up his fourth win of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup Thursday at the Rapid Speedway.

The Robeline, La., racer rolled off fifth on the grid and wasted little time in getting to the front, rocketing past front row starters Ricky Thornton Jr. and Rodney Sanders on lap eight, and then rattling off 34 flawless laps to claim the $3,000 winner's reward.

With his fourth triumph in the last six events, Dillard narrowed the gap between himself and defending USMTS national champion Jason Hughes to just 16 points with seven races remaining to determine this season's super hero.

Thornton registered the best result of his rookie season with a runner-up finish ahead of Sanders while Jesse Sobbing clawed his way forward seven positions to finish fourth.

After a rocky start to The Hunt, Stormy Scott regained some momentum with a fifth-place showing, Scott Drake was sixth, Zack VanderBeek took seventh, Hughes held on for eighth, Johnny Scott nabbed the ninth spot and another rookie, Jacob Bleess, rounded out the top 10.

After a six-year absence, the Park Jefferson Speedway is the location for Saturday's 11th round of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's Cup powered by S&S Fishing & Rental. Presented by Ideal Wheels, the mega-show will also feature 360 Sprint Cars, Sport Modifieds and Sport Compacts.

In the previous six visits to Park Jeff, six different USMTS drivers have gone to Widow Wax Victory Lane. Local favorite Jay Noteboom captured the inaugural event in 2005, followed up with wins by Kelly Shryock, Jason Krohn, Jason Hughes, Jon Tesch and Ryan Gustin.

The pit gate will open at 2 p.m. with the main gate opening at 3. A driver autograph session is planned from 4:30 to 5:00. Local band Wavelength will also be on hand for the Pre-Race Party at the Park.

Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.parkjeff.com for $20 for adults and $8 for children. Race day tickets will be $25 for adults, $20 for seniors and $12 for children ages 6 to 16. Pit passes will be $30. All tickets are eligible for a clubhouse upgrade for $15. Race fans can get $2 discount coupons at Casey's General Stores locations in North Sioux City and Elk Point in South Dakota; Akron and Sioux City in Iowa; and South Sioux City in Nebraska.

Brock Bauman and his No. 6 Sour Patch Kids USMTS Modified will be on hand for a meet 'n' greet at the Casey's General Store located at 1313 River Rd. in North Sioux City from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Park Jefferson Speedway is a semi-banked 4/10-mile dirt oval located off of I-29 at exit 4, then 0.2 mile east to SR 105, then 1.8 miles north (east side of SR 105). For more information, go to www.parkjeff.com or call (712) 202-5540.

The four-night swing wraps up Sunday, Aug. 28, with the return of the USMTS to the thrilling Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D., for the Sandy Benson Memorial.
