norman Posted July 6, 2016 Report Share Posted July 6, 2016 My brother has a 96 Dakota with a 2.5.Runs fine some time's. Then it doesn't want to start. Took one of the spark plug wires off and not getting any fire. Wait awhile and it starts right up. Any answers. Try putting gas in the throttle body no help. Seams like has a short some where. HiTech Posted July 7, 2016 Report Share Posted July 7, 2016 CHECK THE ENGINE codes or have it scanned ...key on and off three time with out starting. leave key on 3rd time ... it should be programed and may show you the code numbers where your millage or shifter indicator in dash .96 should be ob11 . seems like one or two things .crank sensor or pic up plate .or pic up coil as some call it . under the distributor cap ..you can look up the codes on the internet and see what part is bad ..dodge mechanic from 89 to 94 heavy line .
