Complete Guide to the IHRA President's Cup Nationals Fueled by Sunoco at Maryland International Raceway

 

NORWALK, Ohio (June 8, 2016) - The International Hot Rod Association's (IHRA) Drag Racing Series returns to Maryland International Raceway (MDIR) Friday, June 17 and Saturday, June 18 for the President's Cup Nationals Fueled by Sunoco.

This year's President's Cup Nationals Fueled by Sunoco marks the third race on the 2016 international tour and it will feature competition in four professional classes and the Summit Pro-Am Tour. The professional classes will include nitro-powered cars in AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car and Nitro Motorcycle, plus the return of Pro Stock and Pro Mod's with the addition of the Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA). The best racers in Division 1 will do battle for valuable points in the Summit Pro-Am Tour while attempting to clinch a spot in the year-end Summit Tournament of Champions.

In addition to the on-track action, a vendor midway and access to the pit area allow fans a chance to meet their favorite drivers and view the crews working on their cars. Tickets are available at www.IHRABuytix.com or at the gate on the day of the event.

 

The breakdown:

 

The return: One of the longest running races in IHRA history, the President's Cup Nationals inaugural race came in 1992 at MDIR. The race was run annually for the next two decades with some of the most famous names in drag racing having made a pass at the President's Cup Nationals.

 

Lightning fast: MDIR recently resurfaced the quarter-mile drag strip giving racers an even better chance of breaking world speed records during the President's Cup Nationals.

 

Fan favorite: The Northeast Outlaw Pro Mod Association (NEOPMA) will compete in the Pro Mod class next weekend and 20+ cars are expected to compete.

 

Fueling the event: Longtime IHRA partner, Sunoco returns as the presenting sponsor of the President's Cup Nationals at MDIR. The Official Fuel company of the IHRA, they provide award-winning fuels to the professional and sportsman racers at all nationally sanctioned events.

 

Defending the win: Jason Rupert, AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car; Matt Bertsch, Pro Stock; Jay Turner, Nitro Motorcycle; and Billy Harper, Pro Modified; are looking to defend their 2015 President's Cup Nationals win.
