Shipman Survives to Claim NCRA Modified Victory!

Park City, Kansas – May 28, 2016 - Ross Shipman with stood a race long battle with Scott Green and then held off a hard-charging Brian Franz to claim the National Championship Racing Association of Park City, Kansas presented by Precise Racing Products modified feature finale Saturday night at 81 Speedway in Park City, Kansas.

Green and Shipman started on the front row for the twenty-five lap feature and after several attempts at a start, Shipman would take the lead once race action finally went green.

Green, Josh Lanterman, Kyler Kemp and Tyler Davis gave chase as Shipman held a six car length lead by lap two. The caution would wave on lap four when Justin Moler came to a stop at the top of turn two.

The restart saw Green drive underneath Shipman entering turn three to lead lap five while, behind him, Davis grabbed the third position over Kemp. Green would open a five car length lead and keep that advantage on lap ten before several cautions slowed the pace of the event.

On a lap twelve restart Shipman would retake the top spot from Green and would lead laps thirteen and fourteen, only to see Green get underneath him exiting turn three to lead lap fifteen. Shipman returned the favor one lap later entering turn three to take the lead for good.

Lap seventeen saw former five-time tour champion Franz began making his move to the front. Running sixth at the time, Franz began picking off drivers one b one and would pass Green for the runner up position with two laps to go.

But there was no catching Shipman as he would go on to claim the four car length victory and his second career with the series.
Green settled for third while Davis held on for fourth. Two-time and defending tour champion Powers completed the top five.

The four, eight lap heat races for the twenty-four car field were won by Shipman, Green, Kemp and Lanterman while Jason McGehee took home the ten lap “B” feature honors.

The next event for the NCRA modified division will be held on Saturday night of Father’s Day weekend, June 18.
