High 'N' Dry: Upper Iowa Speedway up next for USMTS

DECORAH, Iowa (May 28) -- Mother Nature has not been kind to the teams and fans of the United States Modified Touring Series so far this Memorial Day Weekend.

Three of the first four events were washed out. Weather woes wiped out the event at Crawford County Speedway on Wednesday but spared the Mason City Motor Speedway on Thursday.

The rains returned and persisted on Friday and Saturday, forcing the cancellation of Friday's show at the Chateau Raceway and Saturday's stop at the Deer Creek Speedway.

But with a friendly forecast ahead, the green light is on for the 9th Annual "Donnybrook in Decorah" at the Upper Iowa Speedway.

Oklahoma's Jason Hughes leads the RealTruck.com Northern Region points battle by 30 points over Johnny Scott with Cade Dillard another 20 markers back in third. Minnesota racers Lucas Schott and Dan Ebert round out the top five in the standings.

Presented by Weis Buick GMC, Sunday's blockbuster event at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds will also feature the USRA Iron Man Series with Holley USRA Stock Cars and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods joining the line-up along with USRA Hobby Stocks.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for kids ages 6-12 and children ages 5 and under get in for free. Pit passes are $35.

Race fans can pick up coupons good for $2 off adult admission at Casey's General Stores locations in Cresco, Decorah, Ossian and Waukon. To find the location nearest you, visit www.caseys.com.

Gates open at 3:30 p.m. and hot laps begin at 6 p.m. with racing to follow at 6:30.

The Upper Iowa Speedway is a semi-banked quarter-mile dirt oval located 1.8 miles east of US 52 on SR 9, then 1.0 mile northwest on Montgomery St., then northeast on E. Main St. (at the Winneshiek County Fairgrounds). For more information, call 563-382-0711 or visit www.upperiowaspeedway.com online.
