This from Steve:

Well got up Monday morning and could not feel my legs or walk at all. Doc told me to head to emergency room . Got here about 4:30 or so and was admitted and in a room by about 10:30. Will find out in the morning when the will be doing another back surgery. They say this will be a rough one. Need some prayers please.

Prayers for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery.

Nick

from Steve's wife Cherie:

For those not on my fb page. We brought Steve to the ER at Methodist downtown Monday. we were in the process of preparing to have another back surgery when things took a turn for the worse and his legs/feet became pretty useless (different from the numbness he has had for months). surgery went well. he was experiencing an issue with gas and bloating. that took a turn for the worse on Saturday. he looked like 50 lbs of air in a 10 lb tube. he was up all night just writhing in pain. at 3 am they scheduled a scan of the stomach for 7 am. when they came to get him he did not answer them. I had finally dozed off around 6:30, I got up and went to the bedside and placed my hand on his chest to shake him a little. I realized he was not breathing. they called code blue and did CPR for 30 minutes before getting a pulse. now we have been in ICU almost 24 hours. he is on life support. dr. will see how things go today. I spoke with the attending this morn. without a miracle from God things are not liking very good. I will post again around lunchtime. all prayers are welcome. sorry such a long post.

The pain and suffering are over for Steve, but just beginning for those who loved and respected him. Praying for peace for his family and friends.

Personally, Steve and I made a good team when we were covering events at Houston Motorsports Park over the years and, more recently, at Central Texas Speedway. His excellent photographic work can be seen all through these forums and elsewhere.

Rest in peace, sir.

I want thank all of you racers. You gave my husband the breath he needed by allowing him to come to your races take photos and sell them. I know ya'll don't know how bad he would suffer in the days following the races. Racing to him was life. If you could race it he would post it! We finalized arrangements last this evening. I know most of you are out of town and can not come, and please know the out pouring of your prayers are so welcome. I will be keeping Steve' phone and email for a very long time. I can not access his email at home as he does not have passwords written down, so if I have to reenter it the phone email goes away ss well.
