Super Chevy Show has Largest Turnout of Racers and Car Show Attendees at Palm Beach International Raceway

 

 

 

JUPITER, Fla. (April 28, 2016) - Palm Beach International Raceway, TEN: The Enthusiast Network, and Publishers of Super Chevy Magazine celebrated the Official Super Chevy Show over the weekend and the racers and car show participants showed up in record numbers for the two-day event. The world's largest Chevy automotive event featured drag racing action, a premiere car and truck show, sold out swap meet, car corral, vendor midway and much more.

The drag strip competition was highlighted by several different sportsman classes, the Camaro Gen 5 challenge, E.T. Bracket classes, Junior Dragster, Ultra Street, and the X632/Outlaw 632 over the weekend. Each class had an opportunity to walk away with a cash prize and bragging rights as the winner of the Super Chevy Show.

 

On Saturday, the Camaro Gen 5 challenge, Bracket 1, Bracket 2, and Jr. Dragster classes competed with Chelsey Martin, Richard Beswick, Troy Stafford, and Jordyn Prince, respectively, taking home the top spot. In addition, the X632/Outlaw 632 and Ultra Street qualified on Saturday in preparation for eliminations on Sunday.

 

On the drag strip, Chelsey Martin (12.36 dial-in), from Pembroke Pines, Florida, went up against Mikey Tell (10.80 dial-in), from Palm Beach Gardens, Florida in the Gen 5 challenge final round and posted a .099 reaction time with a 12.398 at 82.18 mph against Tells' .139 reaction time with a 11.140 at 100.52 mph pass.

 

Richard Beswick (7.17 dial-in), Lake Worth, Florida, went six rounds and landed in the Bracket 1 finals with Andrew Reaves (6.09 dial-in) from Roswell, Georgia. Reaves fired off a .027 reaction time to the even faster .005 reaction time of Beswick as he went on to win on Saturday.

 

In Bracket 2, Troy Stafford from Orlando, Florida, faced off against "Super" Sonny Freeland from Hollywood, Florida in the final round. Stafford dialed in at 10.36 seconds to run a 10.382 at 96.92 mph taking victory over Freeland. In Jr. Dragster, Jordyn Prince of Titusville, Florida found himself up against Nick Ferraro from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida in the finals. Ferraro jumped at the line resulting in a foul and Prince heading to the winner's circle.

 

Troy Pirez took the No. 1 qualifying position in Ultra Street with a pass of 4.967 at 144.13 mph while in X632/Outlaw 632, Johnny Pluchino went quickest, 4.455 at 158.61 mph to grab the top spot.

The fans at the Super Chevy Show on Sunday witnessed a full day of drag racing action as the heads-up classes, X632/Outlaw 632 and Ultra Street went into eliminations, along with the Bracket 1, Bracket 2, and Junior Dragster competed throughout the day.

 

The X632/Outlaw 632 continued their 2016 points championship at the Super Chevy Show. 16-cars qualified on Saturday and eliminations took place on Sunday on the 1/8-mile. The finals came down to Johnny Pluchino from Commack, New York and Bobby Hollingworth from Dunedune, Florida. Both drivers were .002 seconds apart on the reaction time, but Hollingworth got loose and had to lift giving Pluchino the victory with his pass of 4.478 at 158.71 mph. Ultra Street was the second of the heads-up classes and also ran at the 1/8-mile. After taking the top qualifying spot, Troy Pirez from Settner, Florida faced off against Kirk Hatley Sr. of Vero Beach, Florida. Hatley had the slight advantage off the start with a .117 reaction time to the .141 of Pirez but ended up having to get out of the throttle giving victory to Pirez after his pass of 4.991 seconds at 144.18 mph.

 

In the Bracket Classes, 69 cars entered Bracket 1 class, 33 in Bracket 2, and 30 junior dragsters entered to compete. The final round in Bracket 1 came down to Steve Dweck (6.18 dial-in) from Hollywood, Florida and Bill Pollard (6.89 dial-in) of Lake Worth, Florida. Pollard in his 2003 Chevy Cavalier reacted quicker with a .023 time to run a 6.951 second pass at 148.59 mph but Dweck rose to the occasion to run a 6.204 second pass at 159.21 mph and take the victory.

 

In the Bracket 2, "Super" Sonny Freeland (8.20 dial-in) from Hollywood, Florida found himself in the finals for the second consecutive day facing off against Tony Gambardella (8.64 dial-in) of Melbourne, Florida. Gambardella in his 1988 Chevy S-10 pickup made a pass of 8.623 seconds at 113.37 mph while Freeland ran 8.196 seconds at 126.61 mph to take the win light in his 1970 Chevy Camaro.

 

In the Junior Dragster class, South Florida racers Bailey Ferraro from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and Jacob Paulson of Sunrise, Florida ended paired up in the finals. The battle for the win was cut short when Paulson fouled out getting a red light and giving the victory to Ferraro (7.90 dial-in) who made a pass of 7.876 at 81.69 mph.

In addition to the on-track action, hundreds of people came out to compete in the car and truck show on Saturday and Sunday. The 2016 show yielded the biggest turnout for cars on display with more than 200 vehicles competing. Participants brought out their pristine vehicles to be judged in class awards, Super Chevy Magazine editors picks, specialty awards as well as best in class awards from nationally acclaimed judges. Select participants were even chosen to be featured in Super Chevy Magazine throughout the remainder of the year.
