By JM Hallas

Paige, TX.,(Oct. 9Th, 2015) With another racing season in the books, Cotton Bowl Speedway hosted its big year ender, the 4th Annual Showdown. The show gives local racers and out-of-towners one more chance to pick up a victory on the semi-banked, 3/8th mile, clay oval.

This years edition featured the regular classes(IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Southern Sportmods, IMCA Stock Cars, IMCA Hobby Stocks, CBS Stock Cars and Eco-Stocks, in action Friday night, plus the South Texas Street Stock Shootout all vying for starting spots in Saturdays A-main events.

Qualifying would be through heats and qualifiers locking the top 6 or 10 to into each big feature. All other would have another chance tomorrow to secure their starting spots. The South Texas Street Stock Shootout cars qualified with two rounds of heats taking the top 12 in combined passing points to be locked in.

Along with the last chance qualifiers and A-main events, Saturdays schedule included Billy Bobs Repair and Tire Southern Texas Late Model Series and IMCA Racesaver 305 Sprint Cars running a full show.

Goode and Dinsmore Top IMCA Modified Qualifiers

The first of two 15-lap IMCA Modified qualifier saw the lead change hands several times before all was said and done. Cham Savage jumped out front at the drop of the green with David Goode jr., Mike McCarthy, Raymond McSpadden and Keith White in pursuit. Goode jr. wasted little time getting past Savage to lead lap 2, while White made his way up to second, using the top side.

White got a huge run off the top of turn 4 to get past Goode jr. and get the lead on lap 4, but Goode jr. kept fighting on the bottom. In the battle for transfer it was Hardy Henderson holding off Chris Swenson, who worked his way up from the back after slapping the wall in his heat.

Goode jr. continued digging on the bottom and finally retook the top spot from White on lap 9. No easy fete getting by a multi-time IMCA National Champion. At the checkers it was Goode jr.(Copperas Cove) in the Goode Towing & Recovery, Bet All Racing, D&D Cabinets, Nate Mare Graphics, Heart o' Texas Speedway, GRT Chassis.

Spillman, Dwayne Grantham and Jason Batt were three wide for fourth when Colton Monroe brought out a yellow with trouble in turn 2.

Dinsmore got a little of his lead back on the restart while Green and Egbert ran wheel to wheel for second. Behind them Spillman and Tidwell were side by side for fourth. Batt picked both of them off one at a time to take over fourth near halfway. Egbert slipped too high coming off turn 2 giving Green an opening to take second.

Up front Dinsmore was closing on slower traffic while Green was charging on clear track. With five to go Dinsmore had Green on his bumper. Several top contenders had trouble while running in transfer spots. Batt had power steering issues forcing her tom pull off and Eric Jones suffered a flat ending his night.

In one of the most hotly contested events of the night Ryan McNeely and Russell Vickory put on a show in the Eco-Stock feature. As green waved on the 12-lap feature McNeely jumped out front with Vickory, Jason Miller, Scott Blauen and Eric Wilson in tow. McNeely and Vickory then began to check out on the field. As the laps wound down the two put on a slide job/crossover clinic after McNelly drifted too high allowing Vickory to get the lead.

McNeely would dive across turns 3-4 and slide up in front of Vickory. Vickory would let him slide by then duck under with a classic crossover to retake the spot. For three laps the two duked it out for the top spot before McNeely was finally able to hold off Vickory'd return challenge on the final lap for the win.
