top_shelf_12 Posted September 1, 2015 Report Share Posted September 1, 2015 Limited Late Models were the first to take on the fast 1/4 mile in Corpus Christi, South Texas Speedway this past Saturday night. I apologize for missing most of the race as I was trying to grab a bite and drink after exiting the track from the South Texas Street Stock Shootout heat races. There were 6 on track with the 50 car of Frank Okruhlik experiencing some problems and not making the call. Landon Farquer claimed the victory with Gary Hunter in second. Pete Arce, Dillon Moseley, Dakota Yanez, and Bobby Jack rounding out the field. Next on the track were the Pure Stocks as 20 came rumbling onto the track (21 in the pits, Raymond Dibrell unable to make the feature). Cheryl Gray and Tommy Miller leading the field to green. There was action all over the track and some good drives throughout the field. Some visiting cars from Shady Oaks and it was nice to see them do well. Full moon racing bit some of the drivers that started up front as Gray made contact with another car on the front straight and may have damaged some suspension parts and fell back to 11th. Cheyloh Brodnax (started fourth after a strong heat race finish) had nowhere to go and hit a car that had spun, believe it was the 19 of Case Duncan and her night was over. Jerry Walters back out there after a long hiatus following a crash earlier this season at SOS, started 3rd and ended up 15th. It wasn't all doom and gloom for the Pure Stocks as there were big charges from the back to front, most notably, a newcomer to South Texas, Travis Weatherford starting scratch and ending up in third and caught the leaders by the last lap, just ran out of time. Eric Ramos with a solid fourth place finish after starting 17th. SOS defending Pure Stock Champion, Logan Schunka went from 10th to 5th. Shannon Maurer survived a collision on the back straight for a hard fought 6th. STS front runner, Jamie Dear charged up and finished 2nd but the night belonged to Joseph Snow as he was the class of the field Saturday night and captured the victory. Limited Modified came out next as a dozen of the best in South Texas came out to battle it out. No stranger to winning at STS, Steve Whiteaker Jr, experienced some motor problems in his borrowed ride and retired early. Hunter Flanagan got turned around in turn 2 and backed into the wall but was able to continue and finished 6th. Once they were able to complete some green flag laps, Chuck Perry had built a large lead over Dustin Butcher but a scary moment as David Schury went flying off the back straight at a high rate of speed brought out the red as officials feared the worse. Schury was fine and had driven around to the track entrance and was waiting to rejoin the race. Unfortunately for Perry it brought Butcher right on his bumper but before we could get going again the 2R of Ray Schaalman was turned around as he and the 38 came together in turn 4 and Schaalman exited to the pit. On the following restart, Butcher hunted Perry down and got around Perry to claim the win. Hector Aguirre finished a solid 3rd with Johnny Torres and Broc Bowen rounding out the top 5. Headliner #1 Saturday night next on the docket as 19 E Mods ready to claim the $1500 pay day. After the redraw, it was David Grobe and Hunter Flanagan on the front row. Grobe, Flanagan, Dennis Cox, and James Parks III starting gaining ground and separating from the field but carnage would soon unfold. On a restart, looked like the 36 of Amelia Perez lost a drive shaft and was piled into by the charging field. Then Thomas Rye had something go wrong on the exit of 4 and had the wheels cut all the way to the left as he was drifting towards the wall but unfortunately for him and several others the car overcorrected and he shot across the track collecting the 1 of Mason Castaneda and James Lee piled into Castaneda. All drivers were fine as Lee rejoined the race. Back up front, Grobe and Flanagan and Parks were nose to tail and Flanagan finally got a run on Grobe between 3-4 and made an aggressive move but got into Grobe and spun him around. Flanagan would go to the rear and Grobe back to the lead. Parks would later have a tire go down and settle for a midpack finish. Meanwhile, Travis Penny, Lee, Nathan and Eric Rachui avoided the messes and climbed into the top 5 but no one had anything for Grobe has he drove a smart, smooth race and picked up the big $1500 pay day. The final race of the night and Headliner #2 was the South Texas Street Stock Shootout with 21 competitive drivers came to the surface. Two relatively new drivers to the series were on the front row with Craig Oakes on the pole and Alaina Smith coming off her first heat race win with STXSSS, opting to keep their front row starting positions and leading the field to green. It was a sluggish start as the 42 of Curtis King made contact with the T9 of Steven Doty and King forced to go to the back as the rest of the field re-stacked but again the yellow came out as King went solo in turn one and was stuck on the tire. He was able to refire and get back in the race but was an early exit on a disappointing night. Meanwhile, Oakes captured the lead and took off. Smith struggled to find the power on the starts and conceding positions as Brian Rye got around. Limited Modified drivers Steve Whiteaker Jr, and Shane Hoefling bumped and grinded their way to the front and made it a nice three way battle for second. Oakes started to check out as Rye struggled to keep Whiteaker Jr, and Hoefling behind him. The battle for fifth was heated as Smith and Greg Carlucci Jr, battled hard and clean but Carlucci Jr, eventually got around her when Smith had a right rear go down and she settled for 12th. Oakes checked out for the win with Rye second, Whiteaker Jr, third, Hoefling fourth, and Carlucci Jr, rounding out the top 5. William Stephens took the drop back bonus and made his way back up to eighth on a good showing by the STXSSS drivers. With the absence of some of the points leaders, Heath Stewart, Anthony Gordon, and a disappointing run for Wade Jones, Brian Rye may be the new points leader heading into next weekend's big two day show at Shady Oaks Speedway this Saturday and Sunday. Snow and Dear put on a spirited battle for the but the drive of the night for me came from Eric Ramos in the El Camino. David Grobe EARNED the E-Mod win as he was under enormous pressure the whole race. Hats off to Brian Rye who had to work extra hard to second place in the Street Stock race. PerezMotorSports Posted September 1, 2015 Report Share Posted September 1, 2015 Thanks for the report Top but the 36 car of Amelia didn't lose a drive shaft , the caution happened out in front of the field the yellow came out she slowed down when the yellow come out ( im not going to mention any names u know who you are ) and the tail of the field come around turn four and plowed in to her left rear and broke the axle. these emod driver really need to learn to use the brake . Not sure who it came from. Hope the car isn't too badly damaged. Hope her back and neck aren't too sore if she got hit from the rear like that.
