rebelracewriter Posted August 16, 2015 Report Share Posted August 16, 2015 For Immediate Release Mopar Nationals Presented by Williams Racing Qualifying Results at Grand Bend Motorplex GRAND BEND, Ontario, Canada (August 15, 2015) -The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) returned to Grand Bend Motorplex for the rescheduled Mopar Nationals presented by Williams Racing. Saturday's nonstop action included Summit Pro-Am qualifying, eliminations and three rounds of Nitro Jam qualifying. Highlights from today's Nitro Jam qualifying sessions included: AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive driver Mike McIntire Jr. making a statement and topping the board in qualifying and a strong field with close times in the Pro Stock class sends three teams home this evening. Mike McIntire Jr. and "McAttack" were back on top of the board this evening as he had the quickest qualifying run of the day. McIntire posted a 5.727 run at 242.26 mph on the quarter-mile drag strip. Shawn Bowen from Grand Blanc, Michigan posted the second-quickest time with a 5.759 at 229.mph. The current points leader, Jason Rupert qualified fourth running a 5.851 at 251.95 mph. Canadian, Eric Latino took the top spot in the Crower Pro Mod qualifying field. The Port Perry, Ontario native ran a 5.911 at 246. 03 mph in his 1969 Camaro. Paolo Giust from Osgoode, Ontario placed the second-fastest time of the evening with a 6.057 at 233.22 mph. Pro Mod points leader, Dina Parise qualified in fourth, running a 6.246 at 199.29 mph. The Pro Stock class was among the strongest fields as 11 cars tried to qualify for eight spots. John DeFlorian Jr. walked away with the number one position as his time of 6.302 at 221.18 mph was unbeatable. Cary Goforth landed in the second position with a 6.313 at 221.56 mph. John Montecalvo leads the Pro Stock class in the point standings and qualified in third. He ran a 6.315 at 222.93 mph in his 2014 Camaro. The ever-popular Nitro Harley's did not disappoint as nine bikes battled the tricky Grand Bend Motorplex drag strip. Bob Malloy from Elkton, Maryland had the best time with a 6.407 at 213.01 mph. Followed by Tracy Kile as he ran a 6.472 at 218.23 mph. Current points leader, Jay Turner qualified in fourth as he posted a 6.560 at 207.46 mph. Alvin Kobernusz did not qualify for tomorrow's eliminations. The Jet Dragsters finished up their final round of eliminations from the President's Cup Nationals today and made their qualifying runs for tomorrow's Mopar Nationals presented by Williams Racing. Elaine Larsen defeated Marisha Falk to take home the Ironman from the previously cancelled event at Maryland International Raceway. In qualifying, Kat Moller topped the board and posted a 5.871 at 274.97 mph run. Tomorrow will include three rounds of eliminations for the Mopar Nationals presented by Williams Racing and Summit Pro-Am racing throughout the day. Sportsman racing starts at 9:30 a.m. and pre-race ceremonies for Nitro Jam eliminations is at 11:30 a.m. Tickets are available at the gate and each ticket includes free pit access.
