Cotton Bowl Speedway

I moved to Houston 2 years ago and was immediately disappointed in the racing scene around here. I expected such a large city to have a following more like DFW but it doesn't have one track that comes close to DFW's worst track. I have traveled the 110 miles to Cotton Bowl Speedway several times this year and I have to say that they have possibly the best show in Texas. I have always believed IMCA is the way to go on dirt and I think they are proving that.

I tried to support them as much as possible last year when they only had maybe 6-8 I-stocks and Hobbys. Last night there were 17 I-stock and 14 or 15 hobbys which shows they are gaining ground rapidly.

There were 28 IMCA modifieds there and I was shocked that they started every one of them in the feature. There was 1 caution for a car spinning all by himself on the very first lap but after that I don't believe there was another one. 28 modifieds ran 20 laps, no wrecks, no spins, very little contact and 3 cars fighting for the lead for 15 laps. 1st and second separated by 4 100ths of a second at the finish line.

If there is anyone else in the Houston area trying to find a place to see GREAT racing, it is worth the extra miles to drive to Cotton Bowl. They have gained a loyal fan in me and I will be back as often as my schedule permits.

Thank you cotton bowl staff for being consistent and putting on such a great show in an area that is so sorely lacking good racing.

Now if I can only find a good Friday night race track!

My dad went to Shady Oaks for the USMTS show and he had nothing but good things to say so hopefully I will be able to get there one of these days.

I will be back at CBS Saturday for the Street Stock Shootout as well. It will be my first time seeing them but I gotta be honest, I am much more excited about the IMCA classes weekly show!

Should be a good show all the way around. You should see one of the top IMCA Modified drivers in the area race Saturday, Keith White. He wins often but had good competition every week. Think they had over 25 Mods and just under 20 Sport Mods, about 15 in each of their full body classes, probably 20-25 Streets. Excited for tomorrow.

You know we are lucky in this area to have three tracks, Cotton Bowl , South Texas Speedway and Shady Oaks who consistently put on good racing programs. Shady Oaks really started taking off with the 2014 Holloween Havoc and staked its claim of a major player with the USMTS show, which was put together in 8 short days in February( a feat that bordered as a miracle) and the just finished ASCS weekend.STS had a horrific start to the season suffering many rainouts and rain during several construction projects. July 4 showed what they can do and their big event in December will be HUGE! Cotton Bowl, the newest track, has steadily grown through the pains of being a new track to what it is now. If these three tracks can maintain their event status racing in South Texas looks bright. Our job as fans is to pack these places so we can continue to get USMTS, ASCS AND $3000,$5000 AND EVEN $10,000 to win events. These tracks are bringing these events to us and we need to support in big numbers to make it worthwhile for them. It is also important to support the South Texas Promotions events. If we do their events will get bigger and better.
