Driver in 6.0 class overcomes dry spell to take victory

 

 

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (July 27, 2015) - Caffey Broadus normally isn't excited when he finishes runner-up in a race, but following Saturday night's heads-up 6.0 race in the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams at Memphis International Raceway (MIR), Broadus was

Broadus finished second to Roger Tagavilla in 6.0, but Broadus was excited for Tagavilla who, with the win, completed the road back from the kind of dry spell that hits just about every racer at one time or another.

 

 

"I've raced against Roger for a long time," Broadus said. "I've not seen him out a lot lately. He said he'd been through something like five engines finding out it was a problem with his fuel system.

 

 

 

"It's great to see him back out here. Roger deserves all the glory he won tonight."

 

 

 

In that final, Tagavilla was near-perfect. He had a .003 reaction time and ran a 6.006 at 115.48 mph. Broadus was also good on the tree with a .006 reaction time, but he broke out at the finish with a time of 5.992 at 113.87 mph.

 

 

 

Other winners on Saturday night include Shane Stout in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro, David Ciarloni in B&B Towing Footbrake, Cliff Hubbard in RT Turbines DOT Street, Drew Tracey in RT Turbines Junior Dragster and Lynn Henson in heads-up 7.0.

 

 

 

Stout squared off against Michael Hall in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro final, cutting a near perfect light (.001) on the way to a pass of 4.926 seconds at 136.03 mph on a 4.91 dial-in. Hall's pass was in 4.958 seconds at 132.74 mph on a 4.93 index.

 

 

 

Ciarloni's Nova raced to a pass of 6.165 seconds at 111.16 mph on a 6.15 second index in B&B Towing Footbrake to beat Patrick Richardson's Thunderbird, which ran a 6.348 at 98.86 mph on a 6.33 dial.

 

 

 

Hubbard was a winner when his opponent in RT Turbines DOT Street, Randy Gregory, broke out in the final. For the record, Hubbard ran a lap of 15.202 seconds at 80.60 mph on a 15. 15 dial to Gregory's 13.112 at 99.27 mph on a 13.13 index.

 

 

 

Henson's Nova was the 7.0 winner after a lap of 7.093 seconds at 90.70 mph against Eddie Scott's Mustang, which ran a 7.162 at 98.25 mph.

 

 

 

Tracey won RT Turbines Junior Dragster with a pass of 8.517 seconds at 66.75 on an 8.38 index. His opponent Justin Poindexter broke an engine part mid-run while crossing the line in 10.337 at 40.28 mph on an 8.11 index. Devin Johnson won the RT Turbines Junior Dragster 2nd Chance race.

 

 

 

Junior Dragster driver Tara Taylor was the Contingency Connection Racer Rewards winner at this weekend's race.

 

 

 

The next Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams races will be Saturday and Sunday, August 8-9. That August 9 race will also be the prestigious Ironman Classic.
