Weekend Preview: Mopar Rocky Mountain Nationals Presented by Good Vibrations at Castrol Raceway July 17-19

 

 

NORWALK, Ohio (July 16, 2015) - The International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) Nitro Jam tour is back in Canada for one of the largest drag racing events of the year. The Mopar Nitro Jam Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations is July 17 - 19 at Castrol Raceway.

 

 

 

The summer race at Castrol Raceway returns for the 13th year and is one of Canada's most well-known drag racing events. One of the most unique elements of the IHRA national event at Castrol Raceway is the massive assortment of race cars. The professional line-up at this year's event will include competition Top Fuel Dragster, AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive, Pro 6.90, Nitro Harley, Pro Modified, Jet Dragster and more.

 

 

 

In addition to the professional action, the event will also include three days of sportsman racing competing on the IHRA's Summit Racing Equipment Pro-Am Tour presented by AMSOIL. Sportsman racing will run in conjunction with professional racing.

2014 FIM - European Champion, Samu Kemppainen and 2012 FIM - European Champion, Nate Gagnon are entered in this weekend's Mopar Nitro Jam Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations. Kemppainen and Gagnon will face-off against each other in Canada for the first time on Gagnon's home "turf". Gagnon finished runner-up in last year's Nitro Jam event at Castrol Raceway and won the 2014 Grand Bend event.

An all new Alberta-based Troy Lee Designs Camaro Nitro Funny Car will make its debut at Castrol Raceway. The team consisting of Ron Hodgson, Harold Parfett, Bob Papirnick and driver Ryan Hodgson took delivery of their cutting edge 1969 Camaro built by Victory Race Cars in California just in time for Nitro Jam.

The Top Fuel dragsters are set to hit the quarter-mile dragstrip with Bruce Litton moving from his Nitro Funny car back to a familiar seat, his Top Fuel dragster. Three dragsters are scheduled to compete in a battle between the U.S.A. (Bruce Litton and Jenna Haddock) and Canada (David Fedorowich).

Three Nitro Jam drivers call Canada home and will be competing in the Rocky Mountain Nationals this weekend. Mike Scott will compete for Jay Turner Racing in the Nitro Harley class. The 2014 Nitro Harley Champion has entered in two events this season - Grand Bend (event postponed due to rain) and Spokane (made it to the semi-finals). Series regular, Tim Boychuk will compete in the AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive class. Boychuk has one win this season from the Mardi Gras Nationals at State Capitol Raceway in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Last week's Nitro Harley winner, Mike Pelrine will return to competition this weekend and attempt back-to-back victories.

The largest AMSOIL Nitro Funny Car presented by Aeromotive field for the Rocky Mountain Nationals is expected at Castrol Raceway. This marks the first time that the Funny Car class is competing for championship points at this event. Entrants include: Rupert, McIntire, Sanders, Boychuk, Pawlikc, Hodgson, Godfrey, Sitko and Nemith.

The Nitro Harley's will compete for championship points at the Mopar Nitro Jam Rocky Mountain Nationals presented by Good Vibrations for the first time at Castrol Raceway.

The weekend's Nitro Jam includes some popular special feature classes. The Pro 6.90 group will join the other pro classes with their supercharged funny cars and altered, competing in one unique class. Also being featured are some of the best Pro Mods of the Northwest in a special performance class.
