Battle for Team Finals Spots Heats Up - Racers are running out of chances to get on MIR's top squad

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (July 15, 2015) - When the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams comes back from its summer vacation on Saturday, July 18 at Memphis International Raceway (MIR), drivers up and down the standings will have postseason glory at stake.

Of course at the top, there are the fights for season championships, however with the cutoff for the IHRA Team Finals just around the corner, drivers are jockeying for position to get on the MIR team, which is made up of the top 13 in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro and B&B Towing Footbrake and the best four in RT Turbines Junior Dragster.


The competition for the last few spots on MIR's IHRA Team Finals will be fierce over the next couple of weeks.
There are several spots sill up for grabs in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro. Just two points separate seventh and 13th place in the standings. Jesse Bobo is currently in 14th, 20 points behind a spot on the MIR with

T.J. Tracey one spot and 10 points behind Bobo.

Bradley Sanders and Harold Shackelford are duking it out for 12th and 13th place, respectively, in B&B Towing Footbrake. There's a logjam behind them with Mark Doty, Patrick Richardson and Robert Davis each just 30 points behind the final spot.

In RT Turbines Junior Dragster there's a fight for the fourth and final spot on the MIR team with Devin Johnson holding an 11 point lead over Tara Taylor.

Drivers have until Sept. 5 to earn a spot on MIR Team 1 in the IHRA Team Finals, which runs Oct. 1-4. If there is enough interest there will be a driver-paid entry MIR Team 2 put together.

Also on Saturday, MIR invites all bracket racers to celebrate the life of Carolyn Cartwright before the start of time trials by participating in a tribute lap in her memory. Drivers will line up in the staging lanes before making a slow lap down the track in her honor. Participants on Saturday will also be given cards to share their favorite memories and stories about Carolyn to place on the waiver booth where she worked for many years.

Gates on Saturday open at 4 p.m. with the tribute lap starting at approximately 5 p.m. The weekend gets started on Thursday night with Test N Tune. Gates open then at 6:30 p.m. with the track live from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $20 to race, $10 to watch and children 12 and under are free.
