Changes Coming at Street Warz - Monthly event tweaks to improve fan, racer experience

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (July 8, 2015) - Memphis International Raceway is making some changes to its monthly Street Warz program starting with the Friday, July 10 event.

The fundamentals of a night of no track prep, street racing simulation are going to stay the same the changes are being made with a mind to make the event more driver and fan friendly.

The changes coming to Street Warz are designed to make the experience better for both racers and spectators.

"We're always looking to make our events better," said drag strip Director of Operations Paul Cartwright. "These tweaks to the program that we're making are going to be beneficial for both the racers and spectators."

The changes being made include the use of an instant green Christmas tree instead of a flashlight start, drivers will get time slips and while no times will be shown on the scoreboards, there will now be win lights to show who the winners are.

The time slips will be torn in half so that racers can keep track of their own progress, but not keep tabs on what the competition is doing.

"Time slips are an important part of the drag racing experience," Cartwright said. "There's a sense of excitement when you get that piece of paper and see what a good reaction time you had or how much your 60-foot time has improved.

"The win lights are for the fan who come out to watch. Instead of a delay after a race waiting to hear from the PA announcer who the winner was, they can see with their own eyes right as it happens."

Gates for Street Warz open at 8:30 p.m., with the track live from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission is $20 to race, $10 for crew/spectators and children 12 and under are free.

The weekend get started on Thursday, July 9 with Test N Tune. Gates for that event open at 6:30 p.m. with the track open from 7-11 p.m. Admission is $20 to race, $10 for crew/spectators and children 12 and under are free.
