Long Brothers, Heeney, Logie, Dietsch, Huber, Chmielewski, and Findlay Score Wins at Spartan

By Duane Turner, Mason, MI: With eight features on the card at Spartan Speedway, there was plenty of racing action. Doug Dietsch scored an exciting victory in the Spartan Sprint division over a fast closing Jimmy McCune. Brothers Marc, and Dane Long claimed the Spartan Stock "B" and "A" features, while Mitchell Huber grabbed his first Michigan Legends feature of the season. The Pony Stock "B" feature was claimed by Tom Logie subbing for his daughter Jamie Logie. The "A" feature saw plenty of action with Tyler Heeney grabbing another win. In the Junior Bandit division, Trey Chmielewski took the win, with Mike Findlay Jr winning the Bandit feature.

The first feature of the evening was The Parts Place Napa Junior Bandit Bandoleros. Danika LaPoint would jump out to the early lead, with Jon Parish and Trey Chmielewski in tow. Parish would take over command two laps later, and Chmielewski would follow in to second. With three laps remaining, Kylie Beckner would slip past LaPoint to take over third. On the white flag lap, Chmielewski would pull to the inside of Parish and make the pass in turn our to take the win. Cody Hall would sneak in to third. The Bandit feature would see Mike Findlay Jr lead the opening lap, and four cars would spin in turn two. On the restart, Nathan Logan would settle in to second, with Logan Haughton close behind. With four laps to go, the top three would race nose to tail, but Haughton would get in to the back of Logan, bringing out a caution. On the restart, Faith Schuch snuck in to second, as the top four all raced in a close bunch. At the finish, Findlay would hold on for the win followed by Schuch, and Nate Jenkins in the top three.

Mike Stutsman would lead the Sawyers Chevrolet Spartan Sprint Cars to the green flag for their 30-lap feature. Gary Sherman used the high side to lead the opening lap. Doug Dietsch would follow close in second, and then take the lead half a lap later. Jimmy McCune would grab second and quickly close in on Dietsch for the lead. As the front duo raced away from the field, the battle was for third between Sherman, Anthony McCune and Don Hamilton. On lap 12, Anthony McCune and Hamilton would make contact bringing out the caution, ending both their evenings. On the restart, McCune would look to the outside of Dietsch for the lead, but would have to settle back in to second. With seven laps to go, Dietsch and McCune would split lapped cars, as McCune would dive to the lead, but slip in turn two handing the lead back to Dietsch. McCune would close back in with three to go, but would have to settle for second as Dietsch would take the win by less than a car length.

The Sawyers Chevrolet Michigan Legends would see Derek Lacey jump out to the early lead. John Hilliker and Tony Monge would follow close behind. On lap four, Hilliker would take the lead with Monge following in to second. Griffin Brown would take over third on the fifth circuit. Caution would wave on lap seven. On the restart, Monge would move to the high side, and take the lead, but Hilliker would take the lead back on lap eight. Brown would then slip past Monge to take the runner up position behind Hilliker. On a lap 14 restart, Monge would take over second as Griffin would spin on the next lap. This would put Monge back on the outside of Hilliker for the next restart. Hilliker would hold on to the lead, but Greg Rudzik would take over second. On lap 18, Rudzik would move to the inside, and take the point, as Monge would follow in to second. With three laps to go, Monge would move to the inside of Rudzik, but the duo would make contact sending both in to a spin. Mitchell Huber would inherit the lead on the restart with Rick Kilbourn in second. Huber would keep the lead on the restart over Kilbourn. At the checkers, Huber would hold on for the win, with Kilbourn and Brown the top three.

LT Harper would lead the Lipari Foods Spartan Stock B-feature to the green flag and lead lap one. On the second lap, Mike Findlay moved in to the lead, with Tom Williams following in to second. Findlay would quickly build a commanding lead, leaving the field to race for second. Marc Long would move in to second on lap 13, and Mike Westphal would follow in to third. With ten laps to go, Long would move to the outside and challenge for the lead, finally taking the position two laps later. The front duo would continue side by side for several laps until lap 22 when Long would finally clear Findlay. Long would hang on for the win, followed by Findlay, and Westphal.

The Lipari Foods Spartan Stock A-feature had Dane Long quickly jump out to the early lead. Jordan Harvey would settle in to second, with John Kennedy in third. On lap five, Kennedy would move in to second, and begin to reel in Long for the lead. Kennedy would catch Long, but was unable to mount a challenge for the top spot in the non-stop event. Jordan Harvey would hold on to third over Tim Sharpe Jr.

Tom Logie, filling in for Jamie Logie, would take the early lead in the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock B-feature. Jarin Larner, and Jerry King would stay close making in a three-car battle for the lead. With five laps to go, Logie and Larner began to pull away. On the last lap, Larner and Logie would make contact, bringing out the caution. Larner would restart at the tail, with Logie and King on the front row for the restart. With just one lap to go, Logie would grab the win, with King and Ryan Hollister the top three.

The final feature event, the Boss Snow Equipment Pony Stock A-feature would have DJ Marciniak take the early lead with Wayne Beckner Jr and Brian Boesel in the top three. On a lap seven restart, Tyler Heeney would quickly jump out to the lead with Beckner and Marciniak in tow. Heeney would drive to a commanding lead, but would show some smoke. Beckner is a distant second, and the race was for third. Six cars would race side by side with Jarecki finally taking the position with three laps to go. At the finish, Heeney would take the win, with Beckner and Jarecki in the top three.
