Russ Martin … Please say a little prayer for this favorite auto racing P.A. Announcer. Russ will have triple by-pass heart surgery in Corpus Christi at 1:00pm, Wednesday, June 24th. He has the best cardio surgeon in Corpus Christi attending him.

If you don’t happen to know Russ’s PA credits, he has been mike-side at … Corpus Christi Speedway, Texas Race of Champions at Texas World Speedway, again at CC Speedway, the TIDA Late Model Series at tracks all over the southwest and Altus, Oklahoma and even at Chihuahua, Mexico, the ROMCO LM Series at Texas Motor Speedway and other southwest tracks and in the past years at, South Texas Speedway and again at CC Speedway … (just to name a few).

Russ is my friend and a good friend to auto racing in Texas and elsewhere.

There is GOOD NEWS from the Bay Area Medical Center Heart Hospital in Corpus Christi regarding Russ Martin’s major heart surgery Wednesday afternoon. First of all, it wasn’t a “triple bypass”. It was a “quadruple bypass”. Russ has survived as we understand from his employer, the General Manager of KLUX Radio, Marty Wind.

When his surgeon entered Russ’s chest, he found that there was a fourth heart artery that was questionable. Therefore, a “quadruple bypass” was accomplished.

And … this is no joke for Texas Pro Sedans followers, Russ’s doctors first name is Sergio!

Russ is currently in the Intensive Care Unit and is expected to remain in ICU until about Saturday or Sunday. This fact is mentioned because he doesn’t have a room number to which he could receive get well cards or phone calls. (His room number and phone numbers will be posted here when that information becomes available and can be released).

RUSS MARTIN UPDATE

Russ was discharged on Monday, June 29 from the Bay Area Medical Center, Heart Hospital in Corpus Christi.

His doctors are pleased with his hospital recovery from a quadruple heart by-pass surgical procedure.

He is resting and recovering at home in Corpus Christi. Russ expects to return to work in about eight weeks. He will miss the CC Speedway race on July 11, but may return to the PA microphone on August 8 if his doctor’s judgement of his recovery justifies a one week early return.

He asked me to pass on his appreciation to all the get well wishes posted here on Speed Zone.

We will continue keeping readers posted about Russ Martin’s recovery on this forum.

Russ Martin is just fine. He had to get some new chest staples installed a couple of months ago. That sounds medically rough.

He told me "all is well" which is proved by his accepting STS's offer for him to do PA Announcing at South Texas Speedway about every other Saturday night since CC Speedway is apparently out of the Corpus Christi racing scene.
