MIR Strip Gets a Refresh

Busy stretch on track calls for quick turnaround before weekend

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (June 10, 2015) - Once the smoke cleared and the rubber stopped flying at Memphis International Raceway (MIR) following the World's Largest Burnout during the Hot Rod Power Tour, track crews went to work whipping the drag strip back into shape with a full scrape and fresh rubber put down.

"After the Street Outlaws, the bracket race and the fun runs at Power Tour, the track was due for a scrape anyway," said Paul Cartwright MIR's Director

Nathan Williamson has been hard at work scraping the track in preparation for this weekend's racing.

of Operations. "The rubber on the concrete from the burnout isn't that much of an obstacle."

On Tuesday, June 9, MIR and the Hot Rod Power Tour packed 114 cars onto the track for a World Record burnout that released a wall of tire smoke that rose several stories tall before sweeping over the facility.

With MIR's Thursday night Test N Tune and Friday night's monthly Street Warz rapidly approaching, there's not much time to bask in the glory of the record day.

"The track will be ready for Thursday," Cartwright said. "We're dedicated to giving our racers the best surface we can. By the time Test N Tune rolls around, it's will be like Tuesday's activities never happened."

Gates for the weekly Test N Tune session open at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 11 with the track hot from 7-11 p.m. Street Warz will be starting at 8:30 p.m. on Friday, June 12 with the track open for racing from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. Admission for each night is $20 to race, $10 to watch and children 12 and under are free.
