Baer Field Speedway To Host Rescheduled ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division Opener - Saturday, May 9th will be the first of two appearances at historic Summit City speed plant on Broaster Chicken Night

 

Angola, Indiana (Wednesday, April 1, 2015): With the cancellation of the 6th annual Cabin Fever Championships at Lucas Oil Raceway on March 29th, the Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division was faced with the possibility of losing a race on the 2015 schedule. In stepped ICAR President, Dave Muzzillo who, along-with title sponsor of the Tour, Broaster Chicken have put together a deal to bring the ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division opener to the track that Muzzillo and his wife, Jody Muzzillo now operate; Baer Field Speedway in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

 

On Saturday, May 9th, the Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division will kick off their 2015 racing season with the running of the Broaster Chicken 50. The tracks fast 1/2 (0.500) mile semi-banked paved oval in the Summit City will get its first taste of action for the 2015 racing season. The tracks weekly Emma Warehouse Modifieds division, that will normally race on the adjoining 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval, will be given the night off in order to join the Top Speed contingent up on the big track. ICAR Entry Forms will be available starting on Monday, April 17th.

 

In addition, it will also McMahon's Best One Tire & Auto Care Mother's Day Weekend Spectacular for four of the 'Hot 5' Fort Wayne Transmission Weekly Racing Series divisions. The AR Bodies Late Model Sportsman, Kings John Service Street Stocks, Afdent Dentistry Mini Stocks and Grote Automotive Compacts will all be on the property in support of the ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour South opener. All Moms in attendance will get 1/2 off of their General Admission ticket. Special starting times, to be announced, will apply for this event.

 

With the addition of the 2015 Season Opener for the ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Southern Division, the Broaster Chicken 50 will now serve as the first of two appearances for the series at Baer Field. The second race of the season at the Fort Wayne, Indiana speed plant will be on Saturday, August 1st as part of the Night of Destruction that is also on the card for a great night for maximum destruction combined with the premier Modified Tour in the country.

 

The Southern Division Season Opener on Saturday, May 9th will be the first appearance by the tour at Baer Field since August 7th, 2009 when Tim Burkett went to victory lane over Bud Adams, Brian Nester, Erik Schaeffer and Scott Coe who were the top five. Scott Tomasik finished 13th in that event, but would recover later in the season to capture the 2009 Tour Championship. Adams holds down the ICAR track record on the big 1/2 mile with a 17.790 he set back on September 18th, 1999. His lap back then, almost 16 years ago measures out to 101.180mph.

 

The weekend prior to the rescheduled Southern Division season opener at Baer Field, the Broaster Chicken ICAR Top Speed Modified Tour Northern Division will start their 2015 racing season on Saturday-Sunday, May 2-3rd at the fast 3/8s (0.375) mile semi-banked paved oval of Springport Motor Speedway, located north of Jackson and south of Lansing in Springport, Michigan. ICAR North will help kick off the tracks new season with the running of the Springport 50. ICAR Entry Forms will be available starting on Tuesday, April 11th.

 

The JEGS/CRA All-Stars Tour will headline the weekend with the running of the Cabin Fever 100. The tracks weekly A-B-C divisions will also be racing as well as the Great Lakes Open Wheel (GLOW) Vintage Modifieds. ICAR visited Springport four times in 2014 with Griffin leading the way with two triumphs. Track regulars defended their home turf in the other two races as Walt Obrinske Jr., and Bobby Heyink each scored victories for the home team as well.
