Danica Patrick's team issued warning for Daytona rules infraction

by Jared Turner, FOX Sports

Following a rough Speedweeks, Danica Patrick and her No. 10 Stewart-Haas Racing team took another blow on Wednesday evening when NASCAR issued the team a "Written Warning" for a rules infraction discovered during opening day inspection at Daytona International Speedway on Feb. 13.

Written Warnings are outlined in Section 12.5.3.1 of the 2015 NASCAR rule book, and the warning against Patrick's team is for a violation of Sections 12-1 -- Actions detrimental to stock car racing. Specifically, NASCAR disapproved of the car's left-side driver heat shield, saying that the outer exterior exhaust heat shield panel must follow the horizontal surface plane of the left side floorboard forward section to the bottom edge of the left side toe board.

Patrick finished 21st in the Daytona 500 after being forced to start at the rear of the field in her second backup car of Speedweeks. Patrick raced her way into the Daytona 500 with a 10th-place finish in her Budweiser Duel, but later exchanged words on pit road with Denny Hamlin after wrecking for the second consecutive day following contact or near-contact with Hamlin on the track.

NASCAR also announced Wednesday that the Camping World Truck Series teams of Scott Lagasse Jr. and Austin Theriault have been penalized for rules infractions discovered during post-race inspection at Daytona on Feb. 20.

These infractions are P2 level penalties, which are outlined in Section 12.5.3.2 of the 2015 NASCAR Rule Book, and violate the following sections:

12-1 -- Actions detrimental to stock car racing

20.14.5 -- Jack Screws: Monoball(s), excessive taper, bevels, or other devices on the end(s) of the front and rear jack screws will not be permitted

20.14.5.2 -- Rear Jack Screws: Rear jack screws must have a minimum 0.875 inch flat surface, perpendicular to the rear jack screw, for attachment of the rear upper coil spring mounts

As a result of these violations, crew chiefs Doug Howe (No. 20) and Chad Kendrick (No. 29) have been fined $2,500 and placed on NASCAR probation through the end of the calendar year. Both teams have also been docked 10 championship driver and owner points, respectively.
