TPS Awards Dinner Held

The 2014 Texas Pro Sedans Series annual Awards Dinner was held at the Little Red Barn in San Antonio on Sunday evening, January 25th. The Dinner was held in the South Room which was filled with a good turnout of 42Texas Pro Sedans drivers, their families, crew members, TPS officials, TPS sponsors, Track Officials and TPS fans who attended the season ending event. The TPS Awards Dinner was co-hosted by TPS Race Director and Chief Inspector David Mackey and TPS Publications Office Director Neil Upchurch.

During the Awards Dinner, 2014 Texas Pro Sedans Champion Sergio Hexsel of San Antonio received his sixth TPS Champions Plaque. It was presented by former champion Neil Upchurch. In his acceptance remarks, Hexsel sincerely thanked Merrell Racing Team Owner George Merrell and his crew. He expressed his appreciation for their help in winning his sixth TPS championship title. Hexsel expressed his appreciation to his wife Laura and #70 VW Scirocco sponsors.

Cole Larsen was the 2014 Texas Pro Sedans “Rookie of the Year”. His award Plaque was presented by David Mackey.

Sergio Hexsel, Cole Larsen and 18 years TPS Member Bruce Mabrito were recognized for their Championships and service to the Texas Pro Sedan. All three received embroidered Hoosier racing jackets. The jackets were provided by TPS sponsor Tom Lorenz, President of Hoosier Racing Tires Southwest and presented by Central Texas Speedway TPS Hoosier Tire dealer Jerry Spencer.

For 100% race participation during the 2014 season, cash awards and TPS Trophies were presented to TPS drivers: #1 James Hogan, #10 Bruce Mabrito, #82 Sterling Beck, #29 Johnny Guerra, #70 Sergio Hexsel and to absent driver #77Mike Knotts and Charysse Knotts who are on a cruise to Antarctica.

Past TPS Champions attending the TPS Awards Dinner were recognized. They were Sergio Hexsel, Neil Upchurch and James Hogan.

TPS Driver Paul Jett and former SAS Track Owner Frank Howell all passed during recent years. They were remembered by Neil Upchurch. They have been placed in the Memoriam Forum Section of www.texasprosedans.com

Attending the TPS Awards Dinner were one of three of Paul's daughters, Diane Valderama.

The Keynote Speaker was scheduled to be six time TPS Champion Bill LaBarge. He was suffered burns in a recent sports car race accident at Texas World Speedway and was understandably absent.

TPS Driver, Bruce Mabrito delivered the keynote speech and his annual cleverly written TPS post season “Ode”. Mabrito concentrated his presentation on reviewing series performance during the 2014 Texas Pro Sedans Series racing season.

Unique Sponsor Star Appreciation Awards plaques were presented by David Mackey to principle Texas Pro Sedans sponsor Patrick Limerick, owner of Janet's Cakery in Corpus Christi, Johnny Guerra of Guerra’s Lawn Service, Corpus Christi. (Limerick was unable to attend. His award will be presented at the first CCS TPS Driver’s Meeting). Also recognized were Tom Lorenz of Hoosier Racing Tires Southwest and Jerry Spencer, CTS Hoosier Tires at Kyle, A-Line Auto Parts, Austin, Charysse and Mike Knotts of 1518 Speedway Signs, Schertz, Texas.

David Mackey presented a TPS Appreciation Trophy and thanked Central Texas Speedway. It was received by CTSRace Director Brad Bush. CTS hosted 5 races during 2014. A TPS Appreciation Trophy will be presented at CCS to Dan and Kandy Monroe of CC Speedway for hosting four 2014 TPS races.

TPS Statistics Assistant Laura Hexsel was presented two dozen roses. 2014 TPS Officials who received recognition were Pit Stewards Jack Foy, Bill Jordan and James Hogan, Pit Assistants George Merrell, Mary Markley,Lanny Young, and Dawn Riley.

The season ending 2014 Texas Pro Sedans Series annual Awards Dinner was concluded with a TPS member business meeting. David Mackey covered several items for member consideration. Mackey also discussed the 2015 TPS race schedule with four events at Central Texas Speedway and four races at Corpus Christi Speedway. 2015 Rules and the Race Schedule were hand distributed. With the TPS Awards Dinner, a proper finishing touch was put on the 2014, 39th Texas Pro Sedans Series season. TPS will initiate their 40th consecutive racing season at Central Texas Speedway on April 25, 2015.

The TPS business meeting was adjourned by David Mackey.
