Recommended Posts

Hello Racers and Fans, I am pleased to present the Houston Motorsports Park detailed Speedway schedule for 2015. We are proud to present an exciting group of events and special attractions for 2015. We will be racing the NASCAR Modifieds, the 360 Motorsports Trucks, the NASCAR Pro Stock Cars, the COKE EcoStocks, the NASCAR AMCAR Division, the Legends Cars and the Bandoleros. We will also have special visits from the Allison Legacy cars and the Dwarf Cars. HMP also plans some special events during the 2015 season, which will include TRAIN Racing, School Bus Racing and the Bump and Run cars.

And Yes, you did see it right, the NASCAR Pro Stock Cars are returning to HMP as a full time division in 2015. So all of you Stock Car and Hobby Stock racers, lets get those cars ready for an exciting 2015.

Stay tuned to www.lonestarspeedzone.com and www.racehmp.com for future updates.

The Management Team at HMP is currently working on completing the rules packages for 2015. Our goal is to create a Fair but Flexible rules package so that anyone that would like to participate at HMP can come to this great facility to race and have fun. We hope to have 2015 rules ready by December 31st.

Rules for the Trains, School Buses and Bump and Run classes will follow shortly thereafter.

We are also excited to announce the return of the Texas Pro Late Models to HMP for a special event on May 16th. This will be a 100 Lap feature event that will pay $3500 to win and $750 to start for a 20 car field. In a joint event with Central Texas Speedway, if the same Driver Wins the HMP 100 on March 16th and the Central Texas Memorial Weekend Pro Late Model event on May 23rd, they will receive an additional $2500 bonus from the Promoters of HMP and CTS. (HMP will be using the CTS Pro Late Model Rules for the May 16th event)

The Promoters of Houston Motorsports Park and Central Texas Speedway are dedicated to the growth of racing in South Central Texas. Our tracks do not have any conflicting events for 2015, so that racers can travel and enjoy the racing at either venue.

Lets get those cars ready for an exciting 2015 at Houston Motorsports Park.

I'm assuming your referring to the non protection of the leader rule......I've raced at many tracks with many different "on track" rules. And even though once in a while it may bite you the it has been the best rules I've ever races under...all involved is just stupid and the hey just keep chopping 2nd place and if they turn you don't worry you'll get the lead back rule sucks. When necessary or blatant abuse it has been policed.

Only people that's ever complained are the keyboard and show car racers. Just sayin

It would be Nice to have the same Rules that the Original Prostocks started out with so it could continue to be a Nostalgia Nascar Class, That was the intent of Building this Class that the Fans Loved so much !!!

I am referring to the rules, or lack of, that decimated the pro late model class. It wasnt a isolated incident. Week after week cars went home on a wrecker. At the end, only 3 cars showed and the class died. And before you get on the band wagon of driver have to police themselves, why dont we stop it from getting to the point where drivers have to. Afterall, if a driver knows that if he crosses a line then he gets punished then it becomes black and white. CTS has put the class back together, its not a very big car count but its starting to grow some. Its my opinion as a car owner and a driver (in this class btw) that "if" HMP keeps the madhouse rules or whatever they claimed that if will leave a sour taste in the mouth of those who race it. I asked the question to get clarification and I will wait for the rules to be released before I make a decision.

Now, I do have a dog in this fight, I did run almost every prolate race in Texas in the past two years with the exception of one SAS race and I do enjoy racing at HMP. I do not enjoy being torn up, and if that is the norm then I can chose where to run or not. Please do NOT turn this into what its not. I am not complaining about HMP.

For whatever reason, the Pro Lates at HMP had a great deal of trouble adjusting to the "have at it boys" rule and stupid, intentional wrecks were all too common, just like Cory says.

However, the Trucks and Modifieds and Stock Cars (now AMCARs) were somehow able to figure it all out after a few weeks and the number of intentional wrecks dropped dramatically after a few weeks of bumper cars.

Frankly, as of the end of last season, I'd say that CTS and HMP experience about the same amount of cars/trucks that get bent up on any given race night, but for different reasons. At CTS it's partly because passing on the outside is very difficult and some drivers are willing to move they guy in front over if they feel they need to even if they know they could be sent to the back for their actions. Whereas at HMP it's more of a matter of strategy since there are usually two grooves there. The driver has to decide if it's worth the risk of suffering retaliation if they punt someone.

From the officials point of view, the two tracks are very different. At HMP race officials are not having to play judge and jury at every caution whereas at CTS race officials are having to decide who was at fault and then impose an "appropriate" penalty (on none) for every incident. At HMP the drivers figure it all out whereas at CTS the track figures it all out.

I have always maintained that the only two folks who actually know what happened are the two drivers involved. And most drivers will publicly claim that the other guy was at fault even when they know they were the culprit. Makes it difficult to be the all-knowing judge especially if you try to factor in the "intent" of the drivers involved.

Putting the track in the position of always "making the call" is a losing proposition in my opinion. I have been in the position of having to make calls at SAS and at CTS in the past and I can assure you that my intent was to be as fair as humanly possible. But that was NEVER good enough and I could count on catching hell from someone after most every call.

That being said, I tend to favor the "have at it boys" rule, but I honestly believe it needs to be refined to black-flag "blatant" take outs or if someone is simply rampaging their way through the field.
