He was hunting down in Mexico, when he was bit a couple of times by a black widow while he was sleeping. He is in ICU at a hospital in Laredo. Please pray for a full recovery. txtom Posted December 17, 2014 Report Share Posted December 17, 2014 Spoke with a co-worker today that is John's cousin; The biggest thing they are battling is the lack of anti-venom. Apparently, all the antivenom they could find in Texas was expired. They have some coming in from Florida, and should arrive today. Expired antivenom for a very common spider here in Texas. We see them on a daily basis at my work (brown recluse, brown and black widows) very nasty little buggers. We are much more aware of them now (saw a few today). soaker Posted December 18, 2014 Report Share Posted December 18, 2014 I just spoke to Teresa, John's wife. He was bite at least 5 times that they can see in his sleep. He tried to tough it out and told Jake to go hunting. When Jake came back to check on him that's when Jake took him 2 1/2 away to the hospital. Said his whole body was hurting very badly. She said there were only 2 veils of anti venom in Miami. Any more was in Australia, he was given those two today, so he gets no more. She said he felt so bad he just wanted to die. Also said he is in and out of it with all the morphine he has been given to ease the pain. She thinks he is out of the woods but isn't sure as of yet. She asked the doctor when he will go home and all he said is that it will be a while still. She didn't know if that meant days or longer. I will share any news I get from her in the coming days. Just still out of if cause of the drugs but communicating well. They are slowly taking him off of them little by little. Thank you everyone for the kind words and prayers. His doctor/venom specialist said it was the worst case he has every seen. Please continue praying. Especially for Riley. She could really use them right now. She had to leave the hospital to go back to school. Hang in there dude hunting season is far from over! And just to clarify, he did tell me to go hunting but I wouldn't go out in the middle of 30,000 acres and leave my best friend at the house after being bit by a black widow. I stayed at the house with him until we realized we had to leave. Then what usually takes 2 hours and 45 minutes to 3 hours only took 2 hours. I was hammer down and haulin ass trying to get to Laredo as fast as possible. Again thank you everyone for the prayers. Keep them coming!!!
