NeilTPS Posted October 26, 2014 Report Share Posted October 26, 2014 PAUL JETT - 1983 TPS CHAMPIONSHIP Driver Died October 26th at age 83 The racing community and all Texas Pro Sedans members were saddened to hear of the passing of racing legend Paul Jett. Paul died at the Gentiva Hospice House Care Center in San Antonio, Texas on Sunday morning, October 26, 2014. Paul was 83 and is survived by his wife Caroline, daughters Dianne, Linda, Carol and numerous granddaughters, grandsons and sons-in-laws. Paul Jett drove his #2 Chevrolet Chevette Texas Pro Sedans to the 1983 Championship. He was an active former TPS member and supporter. Paul Jett is well known nationally and state-wide as a long time race car driver in a number of classes ie: SCCA Trans-AM National Road Racing Series in the “Handy Andy” Camaro Three time NASCAR Modified Champion 1967, 1968 and 1969 Raced first two Texas Race of Champions in Late Model class at Texas World Speedway 1966 SCCA Divisional Champion in a Lotus 1967 & 1968 SCCA National Champion, Shelby V-8 with teammate Freddie Van Buren SCCA Modified Sports Cars in a Lola Chevy V-8 and with a Lotus 4 cylinder engine Various southwest tracks where raced in Modified Class USAC Sprint cars and USAC Midget Divisions Raced a Hudson six cylinder Coupe at the Old Pan American Speedway at San Antonio Raced a Camaro V-8 at the New Pan American Speedway at San Antonio NASCAR Winston Cup in the #72 Ford Torino at Texas World Speedway Highest finishing Rookie in 1972 NASCAR 500 at Talladega Texas Pro Sedan Series, won 1983 Driving Championship in the #2 Chevrolet Chevette Texas Pro Sedan Series last race in the #50 VW Rabbit at CC Speedway on July 11, 2009 Raced in National Lawn Mower Dragster Series Racing history content changes provided by Paul Jett's daughter Diane Valderama Funeral arrangements are pending.
