NickHolt Posted September 17, 2014 Report Share Posted September 17, 2014 Rescheduled “Double-Double” set for this Saturday, 9/20/2014, at Houston Motorsports Park Houston, TX (September 17, 2014) – NASCAR fans and NASCAR stock car racing teams are all hoping the weather will cooperate at Houston Motorsports Park(HMP) this Saturday, September 20, 2014, after two race events in-a-row were canceled due to adverse weather conditions at the beautifully-maintained, 3/8-mile asphalt/concrete oval in Northeast Houston. With only four race nights remaining in HMP 2014 schedule, the “Double-Double” on tap this Saturday could go a long way in deciding the track championships for the three NASCAR-sanctioned weekly classes, as well as the fun-to-watch Eco Stocks, pint-sized Bandoleros, and lightning-quick Legends. The first “Double” means that all six HMP racing divisions – the NASCAR Fiesta Modifieds, the NASCAR BWFS Coke Trucks, and the brand new NASCAR American Muscle Cars, the Bandoleros, the fender-banging Eco Stocks and the Legends– will compete in twin feature events. That will mean twice the all-important championship points will be up for grabs this Saturday. HMP Race Director Sarah Mandabach anticipates the top teams contending for the six division championships will be giving it an extra effort as the season enters the home stretch. “When we get to this point in the season, especially with the two recent rainouts, the battle lines have pretty much been drawn and those with championship drams realize that it’s now-or-never,” Mandabach said. “And those teams within striking distance will be taking a few more risks to move closer to those coveted championships.” “On the other hand,” Mandabach continued, “those drivers who are already at the top of the point standings know that there will be folks gunning for them and looking over their shoulder a bit more than usual. It’s been our experience that when ‘conservative drivers’ and ‘going-for-it-drivers’ are on the track at the same time, there’ll be some paint swapping. “ The second “Double” means that the track is offering two adult admissions for the price of one, so NASCAR fans can get two adult tickets for only $12 at the front gate. And, as usual, children 12 and under are admitted free. Couple the low cost of admission with $1 cokes, $1 hot dogs, and $1 beer and the end result is a very inexpensive, very exciting night out for the whole family. NASCAR Fiesta Modifieds In the top-of-the-line NASCAR Fiesta Modifieds, Zach Knowles, Michael Kourkoubes, and multi-time track and state champion Joe Aramendia, are locked in a torrid battle for supremacy. Knowles recently took over the top spot in the point standings from Kourkoubes, but all eyes are on Aramendia who is staging a spirited comeback after struggling earlier in the season. Youngster Clayton Green, fourth in the standings, has shown he’s capable of making up points in a hurry and Jason Morman is always a threat to win on any given night; both will need to put it in overdrive to catch the top three. Kevin Wiseman, 128 NASCAR BWFS Coke Trucks The NASCAR BWFS Coke Trucks is more of a war than a battle with Charles Evans, Jr, having to defend his top spot every race from both David Webster and Mason Teague. Teague, who missed a double-feature night earlier in the season, is on a roll and has won the last five NASCAR BWFS Coke events in impressive fashion taking over the third spot in the standings. Webster, who also competes in the NASCAR American Muscle class and leads in their point standings, has shown a lot of muscle lately and is poised to pounce, should Evans have a bad night. Kyle Books and Travis Benson are capable of winning on any given night and should not be counted out of the championship running at this point in the season. Justin-Paul Steiner, 131 NASCAR American Muscle Cars David Webster has dominated this NASCAR division for the past couple of years and is a shoe-in to repeat as champion. Webster has won almost every race this season and with his nearest rival, Nathan Demski, out for the remainder of the season with a serious shoulder injury, he seems destined to repeat again this year. This class is really just taking off with new rules and new Camaro/Mustang body styles. Next year there will be plenty of new NASCAR AMCAR teams looking to knock Webster off the top of the chart. Last time out, track owner Graham Baker drove a brand-new NASCAR AMCAR Camaro and proved Webster can be beaten; however, he weighed in a few pounds short during the post race inspection and the win was credited to Webster.
