Monza and Doc from "Street Outlaws" to Race at Memphis International Raceway

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (August 27, 2014) - Monza and Doc from the popular Discovery Channel TV show "Street Outlaws" are scheduled to race Memphis International Raceway's (MIR) historic drag strip on Friday, Sept. 19. The duo will go head-to-head down the 1/8-mile in a best two out of three races to win. The event will run in conjunction with an open Test N Tune and a Quick 8 with $500 to win.

"Street Outlaws" takes a look at the fastest cars in Oklahoma City in which cars and drivers compete to be top-10 on "The List". The List has been a tradition passed down over generations in the OKC underground racing circuit. It's built up such notoriety that the Oklahoma City crews are getting noticed and called-out by racing communities all across the country.

MIR has invited two of the 405 OKC crew, Monza and Doc, to take the racing off of the streets and onto the race track. Jerry "Monza" Johnston drives "Sinister Split Bumper", a 1972 Camaro Rally Sport with a 598 cubic inch big block Chevy engine and currently sits in the top spot on The List. Doc races "Street Beast", a 1970 Chevy Monte Carlo with a 706 cubic inch big block Chevy engine and is ranked sixth on The List.

The special appearance will include an open Test N Tune and a Quick 8 with a chance to win $500. The gates open at 7 p.m., tech for Monza and Doc at 8 p.m. and the track action runs from 8 p.m. to midnight on Friday, Sep. 19. $20 to run Test N Tune, $20 spectator/crew admission and children 12 and under are FREE.
