texcraig
ABC in the Austin area has pulled the Sprint Cup race Sat 8/23 at Bristol to show the Texans preseason football game with Denver. Does anyone know if it will be shown somewhere else?? I guess it is showing that ABC/ESPN is giving Nascar the boot at the end of the season. PAPosse
Admittedly, I don't know the details, but when this type of thing happens it's usually the local station management that made the decision. The best thing to do is contact the local station in any and every means possible, and try to get as many racing fans as you can to do the same. Chances of it working are slim, but I've seen a protest like that succeed once in Biloxi/Gulfport, Mississippi.
HiTech
THAT JUST TELLS YOU WHAT THE LOCAL STATION THINKS ABOUT THEIR RACE FANS .BRISTOL RACE IS STILL LARGER THAN THAT FOOT BALL GAME .AND THIS ALSO SHOWS THE LACK OF SUPPORT NASCAR IS DEALING WITH LATELY ..A PRE SEASON GAME IS WINNING THE BATTLE .... RodneyRodriguez
ratings driven I'm sure plus in contract with the Texans and local fan base pretty good. Austin not really a strong racing demographic as sad as that is.
tps48
If you have DishTV you can watch it, also I believe you can stream it on something like AppleTV. (That's what I use)
Radical
According to the Jayski web site the Austin area can view on the following channels. Time-Warner: 811 or 1240 Suddenlink: 721 A.T.&T.: 3024
1275th
Apparently the only way to get it in San Antonio is DISH. Neither time warner or A T & T have it anywhere and the local ABC channel is going to watch the incredibly exciting Texans pre season game. arob
Maybe ESPN will bring back Thursday Night Thunder.THAT was racing! I think it is time for someone to sign up Bowman - Gray for a season!I bet it would outdraw most NASCAR races!

NeilTPS
Having worked at an ABC-TV affiliate in Houston years ago (KTRK-TV), I think I can sort out “the trees from the forest”.An affiliated station has the contractual right to “pre-empt” some network ABC-TV programs under certain conditions. One basic reason a station has the contractual right to “pre-empt” some network feeds is when replacement program interest is deemed greater by the station. In this case, stations apparently believe there is greater interest in Houston Texan pro football than a NASCAR race at Bristol. It is likely that local station sponsor cut in revenue is more profitable by carrying the Texan games. This management decision may be supported by comparing recent Sprint Cup race TV ratings, which I have read are dropping similar to NASCAR crowd counts in the grandstands. The pre-emption of the NASCAR race at Bristol is probably going to be a larger issue than just KVUE-TV in Austin and may extend to several Texas ABC-TV affiliated stations this Saturday night. I know that KSAT-TV in San Antonio has a four game pre-season deal with the Houston Texans. I assume that KVUE-TV has a similar deal. I also assume that KTRK-TV in Houston is carrying all four games since it originated Texan pre-season football games in past years. All are ABC-TV affiliates. It is convenient to learn that the ABC-TV feed will be available on several cable and satellite services to support auto racing fans out there in TV land.I don’t anticipate that this “pre-emption” problem will exist when the regular NFL season begins. rebelracewriter
KSAT in San Antonio is doing the same crap....on TWC and DirecTV anyway....Thanx a lot jackwads! I remember living in Houston that the local station(s) would cut of the start Sunday races for church services....They really didn't care to hear our complaints either.....Nice business model!!!!! Danielsen Motorsports
Yet another reason Nascar has no business racing on Saturday night. Not only screwing over the local tracks but now football. Go Texans!
HiTech
Maybe its cause the racing is bland at best. Yes I know its bristol but maybe something will change with nascar. i cant see it coming anytime soon for the better ...i think nascar has run its course , nascar cant get back to its roots that made it what it was .to many muti team owners now to many cookie cutter tracks and bristol has to many grooves to race in now ..the days of cover alls dirty shirts dirty faces in nascar is dead ..drivers get out of the cars now and not even a sweat bead or one hair out of place .. direct-flo
Kind of crappy for KSAT-12 here in San Antonio (our local ABC affiliate) to pull this stunt. From a totally bias point of view, I do not like them trumping the NASCAR race for the chase at Bristol with a preseason pretend football game…heck the TEXANS football game isn’t even a home game…it’s in Denver. Racer26
Per the Nascar website there are 15 markets airing football and there are alternate channels to watch the race. http://www.nascar.com/en_us/news-media/articles/2014/8/21/bristol-sprint-cup-series-race-alternate-channels.html
arob
Heck I usually watch the first 20 and last 20 laps with Bar Rescue in between which to me is more entertaining than most NASCAR races. And I don't think NASCAR racing on Saturday nights hurts the local racing as much as it might have in the past.Personally I have NEVER stayed home to watch a NASCAR race instead of going to a local track. PAPosse
When I was in Kansas City earlier this year, they ran the Cup race on Saturday night. 5 miles up the road, Lakeside Speedway ran a regular show. The car count was normal and the crowd was still good. Different areas of the country respond in different ways I suppose. With the availability of alternate channels, I can handle the pre-emptions a little better. I like football as much as anyone. Still, people get screwed over for a preseason football game? That's almost as bad as when ESPN tape delayed Martinsville for the NFL draft.....THE DRAFT!!
direct-flo
Good news if you live in the Dallas area and have Uverse...you can enjoy the race on 8 WFAA.
