Question on making a sport compact

Since nobody will answer,I will try.The Compacts at STS have an open invitation for any 4 cyl or even a 6cyl Eco to race here.We already have a later Mustang racing with us.Until the car count goes really high this invitation stands.Right now we have several cars from various venues running so build your car. What will not work is running big engines like Essenger aftermarket stuff. As long as you can pull the vacuum and run on pump gas you should have no problem.Once you have regestered at least once you will be grandfathered should rules get strict.

I am not a track official but if this is not correct Ken will correct this.Call him if you want confirmation. We would love to have you.

I have not retired.Thumper is on the trailer right now.I was out of town. And I can pass a vacuum and fuel test anytime.I dont mind racing against the big motors but if it gets out of hand others will give up.

Whats funny was it was the Ford guys doing the complaining about the Fords.lol.

It was once a pesky Neon and an H2 Integra that ruled the roost at STS.Whos next?

I still believe a built Sport Compact like an Integra,Honda,Mitsubishi or a Cavalier,Neon,or the like with a twin cam, multi valve modern engine with the big factory horsepower and modern suspension will eventually be the car of choice. But like Ken says,BRING IT.

See you tomorrow.

I guess this is the conflict, do you want the Compacts to be an open "Outlaw" type class or keep it as an affordable "entry level" class. You start allowing those expensive, high performance parts you'll lose those racing on a budget which I would assume most of those guys and gals are having inexpensive fun and won't want to put $10,000-15,000 into a Compact, if they did they'd probably run TPS but that's jmo.

SOMEONE BRINGS ONE OF THOSE CARS THUMPER WAS TALKING ABOUT .WITH TWIN CAM .LIKE A V TECH ..THE FORD MOTORS WONT MATTER .... IF YOU CANT MAKE THE CAR TURN AT STS .IT WONT MATTER IF YOU HAD A V8...I HAD A SAID FORD MOTOR MENTIONED AT STS THE LAST RACE OF 2013 ...SURE WAS FAST BETWEEN THE TURNS ..TURNING BACK TO GO THE OTHER WAY WAS NOT SO GREAT ...REALLY TO MUCH MOTOR AND IT WAS GEARED HIGH FOR A SHORT TRACK .SAS GEARS ONLY USED ABOUT HALF OF WHAT IT HAS UNDER THE HOOD .

Yes HiTech, you need to turn it too, I've seen a few cars that put way too much in motor and couldn't steer it. But the point I was making was the people that put that in a motor will eventually realize they need to spend in suspension or trials and errors til you figure out the handling. Case in point is Thumper. Look at the car, not much to it but how is GB successful? His cars handle. He can put that car anywhere at CCS or STS and not lose speed.

Well the discussion is on.Im not worried about overpriced cars as long as we still have the claim rule on complete cars.CC Speedway lost control of the Texas Thunders when they did away with the claim.Almost every track that runs compacts successfully has some claim, just for that reason.Ours is pretty fair,2500 cash or 1250 and trade and only a competitive car. can claim.Probably will never be used. The expensive cars are racing with Pro Sedans anyway just like my old car is doing.

Oval tracks can equalize a lot but suspension is key.Sometimes 5 pounds of air can make the difference.Hi Tec is correct, when the modern sports cars appear the Fords and Rabbits will be obsolete.Until then I would rather run with renegades than park due to low car counts.Last years shootout showed many types of cars can run together. It would be great for the class if some more experienced racers got involved and brought their experience to share with us.Too many are sitting in the stands due to funds or time restraints.I see them every race.

Last years champion and this years point leader is winning and not even taking advantage of the suspension enhancements available to him.He still uses a legal frontrunner chassis. That Chevy would be killer if it was dialed in to oval track suspension,IE tire sizes, sway bars, camber etc.All with a stock power plant.

If anybody has ideas how to get more people involved with this deal, now is a good time to share it.Money would help a lot and this is a good chance for somebody in the auto trade to become a series sponsor.Like "Sprint Cup" or "nationwide Series" or "Joe Blows BBQ Compacts" or such.

2damslo,remember the sign at the pit entrance.....No Crybabies!..........racers only

Yes the first one I got from Rich but Will built it to stock no front camber that was a good car finished 2nd in points and missed 1 or 2 races raced Tim in that bad ass mustang. The only issue I would think the guy building the mustang will have is it is a convvertable

I was going to build a rag top Rabbit the other day.I was going to put the cage from my dead Rabbit in it and clip the roof.Rag tops have a stronger floorpan and I have to cut off the roof to install a built cage anyway. It was at my neighbors,Harlingen U Pull,my old junkyard. But they refused to sell me the complete car, dang it.

While on the subject,I read in a front wheel drive forum some guys were cutting off the roof, putting the car on jack stands with the RF and LR 2 or 3 inches more than the LF and RR.Then they install the cage. That puts weight bias on the LF and RR where a fwd needs to have it.These guys had to use all the same size tires on the car.At STS we can get the same results with tire diameters.Man theres so much new stuff to learn. Those racers up north are way ahead of us.Theres even a NEMST which is North East Mini Stock Tour that travels a few states. These guys are FAST!
