SCOTT Rookie leader Austin Wayne Self to do double duty at Lucas Oil Raceway Friday

(TOLEDO, Ohio – July 23, 2014) – One race isn’t enough for Austin Wayne Self.

The leader in the current SCOTT Rookie Challenge standings in the ARCA Racing Series presented by Menards will race two races Friday, July 25, at Lucas Oil Raceway.

Before Self climbs into his Cunningham Motorsports Dodge for the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200 presented by Federated Car Care, he will race in the ARCA/CRA Super Series against the likes of NASCAR veterans Kyle Busch and David Ragan.

“I am going to have a lot of family at Lucas Oil Raceway, it’s an important race for me and all of our attention is focused towards having a strong run here,” Self said. “It’s a half-mile, and we were really fast in testing. After Chicago we are looking for redemption and this is just the place to earn it.”

On Friday July 25, Self will kickoff a packed day of back to back racing in both the ARCA/CRA Super Series and the ARCA Racing Series. What could have easily intimidated any driver, motivated the 18-year-old from Austin, Texas.

“We are running the double at Lucas Oil Raceway, so the extended seat time should be to our benefit,” he said. “We have raced the double at both Winchester and Berlin last year, the only difference is – this one is the same night so hydration is going to be critical. I run two classes all the time at Central Texas Speedway, but this is a larger scale so we will see what happens.”

In the ARCA/CRA Super Series race, Self will be running for Crew Chief David Pletcher in the No. 22 AM Technical Solutions Dodge Super Late Model.

“The biggest obstacle will just be how tight both of the races are, we won’t have a lot of down time between cars, so that will make it interesting,” he said. “I can also be pretty aggressive in the Super Late Models. I want a win in front of my family, and I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that happens.”

The ARCA/CRA race, the Circle City 100 Presented by JEGS.com, is at 7 p.m.

Chad Bryant will crew chief the No. 22 AM Technical Solutions/Cunningham Motorsports Dodge in the SCOTT Get Geared Up 200. That race begins at 9 p.m. ET and will be live on Fox Sports 1.

Self enters the race atop the rookie point standings as he tries to join the likes of Frank Kimmel, Bobby Gerhart, Benny Parsons, Davey Allison and Chris Buescher to win the ARCA rookie award.

“We tested at LOR earlier in the month,” Bryant said. “During the test we used a different package than we have generally ran in the past. It should be a good night for us. Running both races, granted he can adjust to both cars quickly, will be good for Austin. Anytime you can get more seat time, it’s going to help you. We will be a factor in this race.”
