Presented by COMP Cams: Results Race 5

 

 

 

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (May 6, 2014) - The racing excitement heated up over the weekend as the fifth race of the 2014 Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams hit Memphis International Raceway (MIR). The races produced another first time winner, a sweep of the B&B Towing Footbrake and R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street classes and some gains in the point standings.

 

 

 

Leigh Hubbard, sister of IHRA Seven-Time World Champion in Top Fuel, Clay Millican, picked up her first career event win in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro and Todd Berry swept the B&B Towing Footbrake and R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street Saturday night.

 

 

 

The points battle is heating up as Leigh Hubbard advanced 12 spots to fourth and Mark Meadows moved up one spot to third in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro class. Drew Mann Tracey made some big gains in the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters as he closed the gap from 54 to 12 points and Sophie Newberry jumped from ninth to sixth in the point standings.

 

 

 

"It was exciting to be a part of Leigh's first career win and see Todd take home two championship plaques," remarked Paul Cartwright, Director of Operations. "Leigh is making her first full season run at the Championship in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro Class so this was a great win for her tonight. It was a great night of racing all around."

 

 

 

R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters

 

 

 

Drew Mann Tracey, a part of the Motorvation Motorsports team, from Millington, Tenn. took home his second straight victory in R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters this past Saturday night. Tracey defeated Weiner, Arkansas' Sophie Newberry via red light start by Newberry in the final round of Jr. Dragsters. Layna Tracey, another Motorvation Motorsports team member, went home with a semi-final finish to round out the R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragster category.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

R.T. Turbines Jr. Dragsters Second Chance Shootout

 

 

 

Devin Johnson, a member of the Steady Stackin' Motorsports team, grabbed the Second Chance Shootout win by defeating Covington, Tenn.'s Devan Lowe in the final round. Lowe, left the starting line too soon, turning on the red light and handing the automatic victory to Johnson in the opposing lane.

 

 

 

 

 

B&B Towing Footbrake

 

 

 

Todd Berry from Tuscumbia, Ala. rolled into MIR Saturday night with his gorgeous 1955 Chevrolet pick-up truck and went home with not one, but two, championship plaques. Berry grabbed the B&B Towing Footbrake win over Arlington, Tenn.'s Chuck Turman in his JAWS Racing Pontiac Firebird. Turman turned on the red light by leaving the line 13 thousandths of a second too soon (-.013) handing the automatic victory to Berry. John Williams from Millington, Tenn., also with JAWS Racing went home being the lone semi-finalist of the evening. Matt Anderson, Bobby Shaffer and Alex Hubbard took home quarter-final finishes in the B&B Towing Footbrake category.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro

 

 

 

Leigh Hubbard, sister of IHRA Seven-Time World Champion in Top Fuel, Clay Millican, picked up her first career event win in her 2009 M&M Dragster on Saturday night. Leigh wheeled her M&M dragster through seven rounds of tough competition in the Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro category. Mark Meadows from Beech Grove, Ark. came in at the runner-up position after turning on the red light by three thousandths of a second (-.003) in the final round against Hubbard. Buddy Ferrell from Brighton, Tenn. and Tony Newberry from Weiner, Ark. came home in the semi-finalists positions. Jeff Bobo, Kerry Caples and Michael Hall rounded out the money earners in Rick's Powder Coating Super Pro class finishing in the quarter-final round.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street

 

 

 

Todd Berry from Tuscumbia, Ala. finished off the evening by adding a second championship plaque to his collection. Berry defeated Millington, Tenn.'s Cliff Hubbard in the final round of D.O.T. Street with a stellar .007 reaction time. R.T. Turbines added a bonus to the R.T. Turbines D.O.T. Street purse and gave the ¼-mile runners more money and paid back to the quarter-final round. Billy Foster, Sr. and Greg Johnson took home semi-final money and Cliff Hubbard, Marshall Skates, Jimmy Ray and David Elam carried home a bonus check for their quarter-final finish.

The next installment of the "Chase to the Championship" will be on Saturday, May 17 as the Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams returns to the famed ¼-mile to battle it out once again. This event will also feature a special stock/super stock class which will be making their first of five appearances at MIR during the Summit Bracket Series presented by COMP Cams The gates are scheduled to open at 4:00 p.m. CT and time trials will be underway at 5:00 p.m. CT. Entry fees are based on class and admission is $10 for crew and spectators. Children 12 and under get in for FREE.
