Modern Day Version of Cannonball Run is headed to Memphis International Raceway

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (April 29, 2014) - The Tire Rack One Lap of America is the modern version of the Cannonball Run. Organized by the same people who created the original event, today's Tire Rack One Lap is regarded as one of the most varied and grueling endurance races in the world. It is the ultimate test of man and machine in which 56 cars from varied manufacturers travel over 3,200 miles, complete 19-timed competitions in just eight days. Memphis International Raceway (MIR) will be the third stop on this national tour on Sunday, May 4. Competitors will take timed laps around the 1.8-mile road course and down the historic drag strip throughout the day.

This year marks the 31st running of Brock Yates' extreme challenge for driving enthusiasts. The event begins at Tire Rack headquarters in South Bend, Ind. on Friday, May 2. Competition starts the following morning at 8:00 a.m. when Tire Rack will host One Lap of America competitors to a Wet Skid Pad Challenge. Competitors will then begin their weeklong trek stopping off at many of America's premier racetracks for timed competition, including MIR. They will return to Tire Rack for the final competitive event on Saturday, May 10 for a Dry Skid Pad Challenge.

The rules for the race are straightforward and simple. No support vehicles are allowed. The car must have two drivers and must be equipped with one set of road tires, which can only be changed for safety reasons. Highway speed limits and track rules must be obeyed. Teams must complete three "hot laps" which are scored based on their total fast lap times at each stop. After the teams complete their last event for the day, it is off to the next stop on the schedule which is normally a 500 - 800-mile drive.

The Tire Rack One Lap of America is open to the public and FREE at Memphis International Raceway. Teams are scheduled to arrive at 7:30 a.m. CT and the competition will conclude at 5:00 p.m. CT. For more information please visit, http://www.onelapofamerica.com or call 901-WOW-RACE.
