And the Winner Will Be…

DODGE CITY, Kan. (April 18, 2014) – Trying to predict a winner of Saturday night’s $750 to win IMCA Great Plains Stock Car feature event at Dodge City Raceway Park?

It may not be as easy a task as it first appears.

After all, the Stock Cars ranked as the most competitive of the DCRP championship divisions in 2012 with nine different winners in a dozen events over the course of the season. And it wasn’t until the ninth event of the season that there was a repeat winner amongst the Stock Car ranks.

Currently fifth in IMCA Great Plains Stock Car points, Garden City’s Perry Misner would definitely be a strong bet. A winner of five DCRP features en route to the 2012 track title, Misner visited victory lane just once last year in limited Dodge City visits. But could Misner’s opening night victory last Saturday diminish his odds, as a repeat winner this early in the season would defy the trends of last year?

Last year, it was Lakin’s Michael Pepper who became the first repeat winner of the season when he topped the ninth feature event after becoming the sixth different winner of the year several weeks earlier.

A fifth-place finisher in DCRP points last year, Pepper made a strong run from the tail of the field last week for a fifth-place feature finish.

Last year’s only other repeat winners were Lamar, Colorado’s Angel Munoz and Ensign’s Brandon Fisher, with one-time winners other than Misner including Dighton’s Shannon Maughlin and Cody Zimmerman, Liberal’s Ruben Eichman, Ulysses’ Marlin Hogie and Ron Hartman.

Throw in the likes of Reagan Sellard and Rich Wadel, who finished among the top five last week at DCRP, three-time DCRP winner in 2012 Dusty Witthuhn and current Great Plains points leaders Mike Nichols and Nick Tubbs, and Saturday’s IMCA Great Plains Stock Car tilt will be a wide open affair.

Along with the Stock Cars, it will be another crucial night of championship chase action for the IMCA Modifieds, IMCA Sport Modifieds, Thunder Cars and Hornets.

Saturday’s green flag flies at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets to Saturday’s IMCA Great Plains Stock Car special at Dodge City Raceway Park are just $10 for adults with children 11 and under admitted free when accompanied by an adult. Pit passes are $30.

Season passes are also available for all 13 nights of DCRP competition (excluding the World of Outlaws Boothill Showdown in July) for just $140. Contact the track at 620-225-3277 for Season Passes. World of Outlaws Boothill Showdown tickets for July 4-5 may be purchased in advance at http://dirtcar.ticketforce.com/eventperformances.asp?evt=129.
