Memphis International Raceway Enhances

R.T. Turbines Junior Dragster Program

Millington, TN (March 13, 2014) Memphis International Raceway (MIR) announces, effective immediately, the R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster program will include a Second Chance Shootout. With the recognition that the Junior class is the future in drag racing and in an effort to increase the number of passes these rising stars are able to run, MIR has added the Second Chance Shootout as part of the current schedule for the IHRA Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams.

The program will run under its current format with all junior competitors running in the same class. The pairing for the first and second rounds will be off reaction time. Once the race is in its third round, the winners from round two will continue in the main race and the balance of the field will have an opportunity to participate in a Second Chance Shootout, with pairing based on second round reaction time. At third round, two separate races will run while the main event purse payout will not change and points will continue to accumulate. The Second Chance Shootout winner and runner-up will receive plaques, but points will not continue to accumulate.

"Because of the diversity in our R. T. Turbines Junior Dragster program, we see this as an opportunity to grow the class, and allow these racers to make additional passes," said Paul Cartwright, Director of Race and Facility Operations. Cartwright continued, "The IHRA Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams is designed to provide a platform for the racers to achieve their best results, we feel by expanding the junior program, we allow the juniors an opportunity to do just that."

The IHRA Summit Bracket Racing Series presented by COMP Cams is a 14-race program that will run races three and four on March 15 and 16. On Saturday, March 15, the gates will open at 4 p.m. with time trials at 5 p.m.; on Sunday, March 16, the gates will open at 9 a.m. with church service at 9:30 a.m. and time trials at 11 a.m. Entries are based on class; crew and spectator tickets are $10.00 with children 12 and under free.
