Mike,

It's a Barretta 9MM, and I gave them dogs every chance in the world to retreat, but for whatever reason even after yelling at them repeatedly, they kept coming at me barking and growling and had me cornered. I was not about to be a victim of a dog attack so I fired a shot to protect myself. The first shot bounced off his head and went into the ground, but the male kept coming at me and the female had circled around to the front porch on my left side. The male lunged at me again, so I stepped off to the side and shot it as it jumped at me again.

I showed allot of restraint, and I could have fired more rounds but I only used enough to stop the attack and get them away from me.

When the female heard the first shot, she backed away but the male kept coming.

I have children that play outside and live on both sides of me, and very easily could have been one of those kids they attacked instead of me like the 12 year old boy who was attacked by a Pitbull today while walking home from school. People who own these dogs need to be more responsible for their safe keeping.

 Cheers, Dennis

Sounded more like an attack on Dennis than a news report....

well you know there will be some bleeding heart dog lovers who will blame dennis for shooting the dog .,the owner will say my dog s are tame. i hope the city finds the owner and nails them ...

They always will be the bleeding hearts. I don't think any of us want to shoot a dog but when cornered...What I didn't like about the "news story" is they made it look like Dennis went inside to get his gun which is wrong he was attacked by TWO dogs not just the one he shot. He was vulnerable. I've been cornered by a pit at my work too but we're not allowed to carry anything so I had to try to jump a fence to get away, it broke the first time and Thank God I landed on my feet and on top of one of those igloo dog houses so I wasn't on the ground with him. I used his face as a catapult to get over the fence the second time and did feel his nuzzle on my backside (luckily it bit my wallet). Before it gets misconstrued, I work for the water department for a city municipality so I had the right to be in that yard but I know I was in the dogs territory which is why I chose flight not fight but if I was in Dennis' position, I would have done the same thing.
