* 50 lb. weight penalty for 3 link rear suspension cars. 3 links no traction control device (spring or biscuit) and solid top link no longer than 36 inches. Pan hard bars may not be shorter than 26 inches and must be solid.

* 50 lb. weight penalty for tubular rear leaf suspension cars.

* 50 lb. weight penalty for using any shock that is not listed in the general shock rules. Any steel rebuildable shock, any steel relocated shock, any steel Billstein shock.

* 50 lb. weight penalty for using any high rise aluminum intake or marine manifold.

* 25 lb. weight penalty for any car w a non stock firewall or partial removed floor pan.

* 50 lb. weight break for all stock panel bodied cars including hood, trunk and roof. Example: Removing back seat fire wall and floor is legal if car is enclosed. If any part of the firewall or front seat floor is removed you will receive a 25 lb. weight penalty.

* 40 lb. weight penalty for any car using Vortec heads. Weight must be mounted in front of firewall.

You are responsible for the min. weight of your car depending on what additional allowances are on your car. All cars start at 3100 lbs. w driver. Add your weight penalties up and together you will have the total weight you must be after the race. Example: if you run a 3 link car w/ rebuildable shocks, high rise intake manifold, sheet metal body, w/ only a portion of a firewall then your weight penalties will add up to 200 lbs. Base Weight Rule 3100 lbs. + 200 lbs. in allowances = 3300 lbs. is your new min. weight.

We reserve the right to eliminate any gray area rule that is exposed by a competitor at any time. Ask before you do it could save you alot of time and money.

2014 rule package should allow drivers some flexibility. It levels the playing field for those that don't want to upgrade or run certain parts vs the driver's that do. We believe this will make for a much easier way of teching cars prior and after races.

We hope our effort pays off for everyone involved in the series as we strive to making the shootout bigger and better every year! Rules are out early this year for your benefit. We will continue to review any neccessary rule adjustments to make the best possible rule package for all involved.

There is alot of rules I would like to have but one thing for sure you cant have is a rule you can not enforce. It serves no purpose to have a rule that some can get away with only because its not cost effective to enforce it. I have run both sizes and there is pros and cons with both but performance I cant say I really notice anything between the two sizes when turning less the 7000.

Ok perfect the current rules at CBS allow any car to run the 2014 rules with two exceptions. We are getting away from mini clutches and we are trying to have a new standard on body rules. Thats it. Other then those two rules everything that is allowed in the shootout is already allowed at CBS. Now CBS obviously can change any rule they feel neccessary to but they also reserve the right to adopt the shootout rules as their own for 2014 like South Texas Speedway has. Either way you should be in great shape. If you still have a concern about a particular rule please let me know.

What about the victor jr intake cotton bowl allows is that still going to be allowed

Stephan: It is allowed in our shootout races, It is considered an "Allowance Part" which that means anyone who wants to run any highrise intake will have run an additional 50 lbs. Keep in mind our weight rule min. is 3100 for next year. So if this is the only Allowance Part you have you must weight a min. of 3150. Hope this helps you out. Please let me know.

I had a suggestion for 2014 shoot out races at the first race we draw a chip for are starting position in the heat races like we do now but the rest of the races the points leaders start there heat in the back but just the heat races to make it better racing to me it would make it more interesting to watch what does everybody else think

Stephan: I like it lets hear from others, my only thought is what do you do with onetimers that only race to defend their home track?

correct me if i am wrong but i thought the shootout was suppose to be about running your track rules and seeing if you can hang with cars from other tracks. making a rule package for the shootout just doesn't seem to me like it is as appealing to run in the shoot out,i thought we ran our rules at the track home or away and that was it i dont think adding weight for intakes or not running the tires you have will work.i feel if you want a bunch of cars to run leave it be that makes it allot more fun then having two sets of rules to run by.

The reason why we had 5 sets of rules over the years is because when we started they were vastly different among each track. Non of the tracks wanted to change for the better or worst. We simply got a bunch of cars and drivers together to put on a race. From a series teching standpoint it made it very difficult to tech cars and very confusing to someone wanting to possibly race in the series. They saw a wide range of looks and rule packages just making it even more confusing. Now with some tracks closing and some new ones that have opened we have been lucky in a sence to get rules and tracks somewhat working together. I can promise you many more cars chose not to race in the series then have because of the different set of rules and them not wanting to take time to learn what its all about. Now regardless if its a shootout race or not drivers will be able to go to another track on their off weeks or rainouts if they desire too. Many of these tracks host their own big races at the end of the year and to compete you had to conform to their rules which meant replacing not allowed parts and having to stock pile parts for different tracks. Limited mods have the luctury of going to pretty much any track they want and race with no changes. Cotton Bowl Speedway competitors are the least effected if at all with this coming change and it is coming. We wanted to get these rules out early as possible to give us a chance to massage them if need be on details. We have already started that process. As a driver I welcome the opportunity to run at tracks with no changes. That gets old fast when you do it enough or take the risk of upsetting others when you beat them using other type parts. One thing for sure no track in the area has outstanding car counts in the street stock class, nobody. However there is a bunch out there by giving them the opportunity to run multiple tracks and level the playing field at the same time we should expect nothing but positives. Our attention will soon move toward purses for next year and figure out a way to help tracks and drivers with bigger purses for everyone involved. Hope these sheds some light on the direction we are taking the shootout in.

I understand the shootout is geared for the dirt cars. How much would an asphalt car have to change to race. With most asphalt tracks running a limited schedule there are alot of cars sitting idle til their next race. Just a question.

Well not sure but AJ and couple others prooved last week going from dirt to asphalt doesnt seem to be a big deal maybe its not going the other direction. I know we have been pitched the idea of adding an asphalt race at the end of the year for the shootout at SAS the last year and a half. I like the concept I just dont know what kind of money it would take to get those off the fence to actually do it. My guess is alot $$$$ to make it worth everyones effort.
