I have a 602 crate with 350 turbo and 9inch what gear should I run?

Last year our team ran a Camaro in the big race, and we used a 323 gear with a 168 Saginaw 3 spd. Final gear was a 542 and the car was at the front of the pack until it crashed.

I would think that the 5.38 gear would be the gear for crate if they have a chip rule. A few other folks that I talked to ran a 5.43 and they had some rocker arms breaking issues because of the higher rpm. If you have a motor with stud girdles, I'd say go ahead and run the 5.43.

This info is what I've gathered so far in anticipation of a possible run on 19-20 April.

I ran a 5.59 in my CC Super street back in 2006. Dont know what rpm because I didn't have a tach, it seemed to be around 7200. Finished 2nd, but dq'd for 10 lbs light. I would think the crate should run a much lower lower rpm , possibly a 5.14 or 5.29 gear.

I'm mostly gonna run a 6200 chip so I want to be on the chip going in or a bit before right now I think I got a 5.83 in it for hmp

Yeh, im leaning toward that gear as long as i run a 6200 chip. I might as well start pulling out the automatic unless someone knows what gear the trucks run.

You better get a 5.00 or a 4.86 gear or you will be on the chip at the flagstand.

Becka is right, for the 4.86 gear.

Remember your old algebra class?

5.57/7200 = x / 6300

x would equal 4.87

OR

5.38/7000 = x / 6300

x = 4.84

 

With the 4.86 gear, you should get on the 6200 chip, but hopefully not too hard.

In this thread, poorboy stated that he ran a 5.59 gear and thought he reached 7200 rpm.

In my experience at SAS, I achieved 7200 rpm in a 500 2-bbl street stock with a 5.57 gear.

For a charger 5.43 pulled 6300 RPM on the big tires.
