JEEIII
First time posting here. I write the O'le Days stories on the Randy Ayers NASCAR Modelling website and have a question on Jerry Schild's #07 Monte Carlo (ran as #07 in his 8th Place 1974 "Southern 500"-ran in '75 LMS as #7) (TxTom Photo) Just did a story on Jerry and we couldn't verify but it appears that the Rush Johnson sponsored MC may have been the ex-Banjo Mathews #27? Hoping that some ex-crew members of Jerry's might be here...... Thanks! John
RETrott
The pictured #7 RJA MonteCarlo appears as a LateModelSportsman entered in the Daytona 300. My guess is '76, and driven in that event by Larry Schild, but was severely damaged in a crash early in the race. The then RJA RaceTeam then re-constructed a Nova bodied ShortTrack StockCar. I am not sure, but I believe any usable parts on the damaged Super Speedway MonteCarlo LMS were used on the re-constructed ShortTrack and shorter wheelbase Nova bodied StockCar. The #7 RJA MonteCarlo also ran the '75 Daytona 300 LMS event, driven in that race by Jerry Schild. Originally, I believe, a '70 MonteCarlo, but with minor updates it became a '72 MonteCarlo, and was legal in '74 for the top tiered NASCAR Cup events, and the very first race in the newly built car was in the May '74 Talladega Winston 500, driven by Jerry Schild. In the '74 Cup events, it was the #07 Car. After the '74 NASCAR season, the '72 ('70-'72) MonteCarlo was no longer a legal body style using the current year plus the previous 2 year models, as applied to the Cup Series, and thus became a SuperSpeedway LMS StockCar. Much of the structual re-construction of the frame front snout/suspension, roll-cage, and rear suspension was done by Banjo Matthews. The re-construction was completed by Charlie Schild, Jerry Schild, and crew, and then fine tuned by Banjo Matthews in preparation for the May '74 Talladega Winston 500. This was possibly previously discussed, but I noticed that the posted question had lingered awhile.
