Press Release

Meeting for Southern Street Stock / Outlaw Street Stock / IMCA-Type Crate Model / Hot Stock and Other Interested Drivers

Ennis, TX, February 12, 2012 - Saturday, February 18th at 2:00 p.m., Ricky Braddock is hosting a meeting of the Southern Street Stock class at 85 Speedway in Ennis. This meeting is being held by Braddock to discuss an opportunity to race during the 2012 season, at 85 Speedway. This "Special" class of cars will include cars that are legal to compete in the Southern Street Stock, Outlaw Street Stock, IMCA-Type Crate Model and Hot Stock classes, and may include others if they meet the rule requirements that will be discussed during the meeting (2010 rules for the class are included below). Street Stock cars will not be included in this "Special" class of cars.

The Southern Street Stock class is been coordinated and managed by Ricky Braddock, due to the class being dropped from East Texas Racing for 2012. Drivers from Louisiana, Texas, Arkansas, and Oklahoma have raced in this exciting class and are expected to compete in 2012 schedule, once it's released. The rules allow drivers to add after-market parts that make the cars faster, being clocked by police radar at 106 mph at the track in Tyler, TX. Braddock decided to take over the promotion mainly to control the rule changes that affected the car class. He stated, "At the end of the class rules it states "No Cry-babies" and I wanted to stop the complaints about the rules". When he started managing the decisions of the car class, he insured that a driver or owner of a Southern Street Stock car would be making decisions that would benefit the class, and not benefit the track only.

85 Speedway hosted the class of cars during the 2010 season and the fans enjoyed watching these fast cars and racing at Roger Archer's track. Braddock, who has known Archer for more than 15 years, has a lot of respect for Archer's racing experience and his more than 20 years of being a track owner. Braddock stated, "Roger is one of those guys. When Roger says something, he sticks to it and doesn't change his mind. When he is speaking to you about your car, you should listen to him, that's the way it's going to be. He (Archer) wants to get the Southern Street Stock class going". Braddock also has been impressed by Archer's commitment to car class rules, requiring drivers meet the weight rule limit by utilizing weight scales every week. In addition, there is a qualified Technical Director at the track and Archer and the tech guy not only know the rule requirements but understand how to tech a car properly". Braddock explained, "One reason that we are having this meeting is to explain that the rules will be followed, including weight limits, because the cars will be checked to insure fair competition and exciting racing".

Archer will also be present at the meeting and will discuss what is expected of the class and drivers and what he would like to see in the future. Braddock stated, "He (Archer) will be backed up 100% by me. He (Archer) is giving the Southern Street Stock the opportunity to race, instead of putting the cars in the backyard and leaving them". There is currently no track that is racing the Southern Street Stock class rules on a weekly basis.

Archer stated that, "the East Texas guys have contacted 85 Speedway about running these cars on a limited schedule. Anyone that is interested in competing in this class should plan on making the meeting. This is a meeting that was called by Ricky and the Southern Street Stock class because they were interested in racing and not having to change their car to compete at a track that is currently not racing their rules. 85 Speedway will continue to run the Street Stock class on a weekly basis, and the Southern Street Stocks will not be competing with them, but in a totally different class".

The class will include a variety of cars including the IMCA-type Crate Models. Although it is normally an IMCA-sanctioned class, the cars will not be sanctioned, and thus no fee charged by IMCA if they race at 85 Speedway in the Southern Street Stock class. In addition, the class rules allow after-market bodies that will change the appearance of the cars, even looking like a Late Model. This will allow more cars to come and race in the class, and more variety for the fans.
