"All Out" Big Money Bash @ San Antonio Raceway, 6/10-11, 2011

By J M Hallas

Marion, Tx.,(June 10th, 2011) They say everything is bigger in Texas, being a transplanted Yankee, I take them at their word. So Freddy Cruz, San Antonio Raceway and Clash of the Titans promoter, came up with an idea for a big money event on the 1/4 mile, IHRA sanctioned, drag strip just east of San Antonio.

Take the premise of one of the more popular TV racing shows, 'Pinks All Out' and Texas-size it. Now instead of just 16 of the closest matched cars out of all of the entrants, the local sportsmen racers now have not just one other 16-car field to try to get qualified for, but five, 16-car fields. The fastest 16-cars on the property, plus 16 of the closest matched cars in the 9.00, 10.00, 11.00 and 12.00 second brackets.

Then throw some big money out there, like a $20,000 overall purse, with $5,000 of that going to the winner of the quickest 16, $3,000 to win in the 9.00, $2,500 to win in the 10.00, fifteen hundred for 11.00 and a grand in the 12.00 class. Just to spice things up and add to the show, toss in $500 for the best wheel stand.

Competition? You want competition, how about one of the baddest drag racers in the area, Mike Murillo in his 6-second Mustang. Or perhaps a two-time Pinks All Out champion, Bryan Hoffman(Red River Raceway-2008 and Dallas Raceway-2010), with his hot S-10 Chevy Pick Up.

Rules? Rules are simple, you must run "all out", no sandbagging and no throttle stops. Entries open to any door slammer or motorcycle.

Love, yes they even threw in a little love with an on-track wedding between rounds on the starting line and a pass down the track to conjugate the nuptials. Congratulations to the Bush's

Friday's show began with an open test-n-tune session in the afternoon, followed by two rounds of qualifying in the evening. This gave all competitors their first shots to get dialed in for Saturday's final qualification round , selection of the fields and eliminations.

This is where I had planned to post some qualifying results and numbers, but with one more blind qualifying session(no numbers posted on the board) left tomorrow the track asked me not to put anything in print. This way no one starts trying to play games with numbers, and gives everyone a fair shot at advancing to eliminations on Saturday night. Oh those crafty drag racers playing the numbers games

Gates open Saturday at 9:00am, with the final round of qualifications starting at 11:00am. Group selections and eliminations will begin after final qualifying.
