Texas Pro Sedans Entries - Race #1 at Thunderhill Raceway - April 11th

 

April 11th will mark the return of a popular four cylinder stock car touring series to the 2009 Thunderhill Raceway event schedule. The Texas Pro Sedans will initiate their 2009 schedule by holding the first event of their 34th racing season at the Kyle, Texas 3/8 mile asphalt oval. TPS is the oldest stock car touring series in Texas. The event will be the first of six TPS series races to be hosted by Thunderhill Raceway during 2009.

 

The Texas Pro Sedans racing format will consist Qualifying Time Trials are scheduled to start at 5:30pm followed by the TPS Feature Race with a distance of 25 laps at approximately 8:00pm.

 

Many drivers and cars who competed in the 2008 Texas Pro Sedans season with high ranking in TPS championship points will compete in the race at THR. A field of about 20 drivers is expected

 

The 2008 TPS Champion, Sergio Hexsel of Live Oak, Texas has changed bodies from his familiar, yellow #20 VW Rabbit. He will drive a VW GTI during the 2009 TPS season. Hexsel was the 2008, 2007 and 2005 TPS Champion. Last season, he won two TPS feature races. His last win was at Thunderhill Raceway in the “Stock Car Spectacular” and the final event at Red River Speedway.

 

Mike Merrell of Kingsland, Texas will be in the drivers seat of George Merrell’s #70 VW Scirocco in which he placed second in the 2008 TPS points chase. His car was rebuilt since the 2008 season.

 

Lalo Leal of Corpus Christi was 3rd in 2008 TPS points after winning one race which was held at Thunderhill Raceway on July 26. He will be up on the wheel of his #26 Ford Cobra.

 

Six time TPS Champion Bill LaBarge of Bryan has filed entry in his #27 BMW “Beamer”. He won the TPS Championship in 1992, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2003 and 2004. No other driver has dominated the TPS series championship as has Bill LaBarge. He placed seventh in 2008 TPS points.

 

A race entry was received from Tom Johnson of Kingsland. He will drive the same #15 Ford Mustang in which he won two TPS races at Thunderhill Raceway last year.

 

Mike Knotts of Universal City will be at the wheel of a new, tube framed, #48 VW Scirocco which he purchased in California. Knotts is a charter member and one of only two original drivers racing in the 2009 TPS series. His 2008 performance was good enough for him to place 5th in TPS point standings.

 

The entry list also includes several other notable TPS drivers: #01 Tory Christopher, #3 Bob Sherland, #9 Bobby Burrows, #18 Lanny Young, #22 Ozzie Osburn, #23 J.J. Osburn, #24 Josh Freeman, #50 Rick Dawdy, #71 Bruce Mabrito, #88 Doug Osburn.

Qualifying Rules and Procedures will be published here in the Texas Pro Sedans forum on Lone Star Speedzone on or about Wednesday, April 8.

 

Texas Pro Sedan members are reminded that to receive 1 TPS Bonus Point, the entry postmark deadline is April 4, 2009.
