Season kicks off with door to door action for modified win Pleasanton, Tx.Yes we're racing here in Texas and what a start for the first race of the season. 18 of the 20 IMCA modifieds took the green with Glen

Allen and Jason Borlace on the front row. Allen quickly grabbed the lead on lap 1, while a couple two and three wide battles were going on behind him. The action was slowed early when Micky Helm stopped on track during lap 2. Adan Arambula spun on lap 3, with Rick Green spinning behind him, collecting Curt Clegg. Former two time modified champ and last year's runner up, Henry Witt started working up from his sixth row start challenging 2002 Rookie of the Year, G W Egbert for second. Witt got around Egbert on a restart and him and Allen starting inching away from the field. Doug Hibbard made a charge up to fourth and quickly closed on Egbert, getting by for third just before halfway. At halfway it was Allen, Witt, D. Hibbard, Egbert and Glen Hibbard running in the top five. Witt started trying the high groove to get by Allen with the two running side by side for three laps with no one having a clear advantage at the line. Allen got the lead secured again on lap 14 as Witt fell back in line, in the meantime D. Hibbard was closing fast. After a near

miss for the leaders when Glen Dirks spun in front of them, the top three were nose to tail with 2 laps to go. As Allen and Witt came to the white flag, they were again door to door going three wide around the lap car of Laura Carey. Allen edged ahead down the back stretch, Witt tried one more shot on the high side in three, but Allen, was able to hold him off to grab the win in the Action Drywall/Republic Homes South/"95" Hoover Chassis.

Top dog shootout in I-Stocks, almost.

12 cars started the main with Duain Pritchett and Travis Evans on the front row. Pritchett got the lead on green, with Kevin Sustaire in pursuit. On lap 2 Sustaire made contact with Pritchett, with both spinning and collecting Evans, the top three, in the process. The no spin the leader rule gave Pritchett the lead back, with Jeff Turner on his bumper. The battle that could have ensued between two of Texas' top dogs never came about though. One of the flagman's "surprise" restarts caught Turner off guard and Pritchett got out to a good lead. Pritchett held about a two second lead at halfway, with Turner having a big gap back to Jason Batt in third with Evans and Jason Gore rounding out the top five. Evans worked his way back up battling with Batt for third after the mid point. After a good battle Evans finally got the spot but was nearly a half track behind the leader. In the final laps Turner was only able to close slightly in traffic, but never close enough to challenge Pritchett for the lead. At the checkers it was Pritchett putting the Arty & Sons Paint & Body/Advantage Race Cars/SW Engines/CA's Auto Supply/Brads Transmissions/Toms Auto Glass/Destroyer

Chassis in the winner's circle.

Pritchett, Turner, Evans, Randy Miller, Ricky Worthington, Shannon Parsons, Batt, Derrick Sears, Jason Gore, Charlie Wilson, Robert Jones and Sustaire.

Pritchett, Turner and Sustaire all took heat honors.

IMCA Sprints

Only three Sprint cars showed up and during the heat race Chip Godfredson made contact with an infield tire, breaking the steering box and putting him out for the night. In the shortened feature 2002 National champ, Elmer Morgan and Sam Haferte jr. put on more of an exhibition race than anything. Morgan was able to lead every lap and put on an occasional wheelie show for the fans to take the win.
