RACE PROCEDURES

 

The Line-up for the Heat Race and the Main race will be the same. Points will be awarded at the end of the Race.

After the Main Race, a small celebration is allowed.

All Drivers must use caution leaving the track.

Parents and other kart representatives ARE NOT ALLOWED in the infield during the race program for all classes, except the 3HP Beginner Class (1 adult per kart)

Anyone crossing the race track during a race will disqualify their kart for that race.

Any kart stopped on the track at any time after the green flag is given on 1st start of the race, will be given a red flag and may restart the race in the last position.

Any kart causing a red flag due to mechanical reasons may restart the race in the last position. If the same kart causes another red flag in the same race for mechanical reasons, the kart will be sent to the pits.

A two (2:00) minute mechanical repair period will be allowed prior to the start and/or restart of a race. Work on karts must be in the designated work are only (not on the track). Karts must be pushed or carried to the work area. After the green flag drops on re-starts, karts will not be allowed to re-enter the track for that race.

Any kart loosing fuel, bumpers and/or other parts that brings out a red flag will restart the race in the last place position. Exception is with only one (1) lap to go.

Both front row karts are responsible for slow even starts. Starters have total control over racing action. Only the starters have the authority to start and/or stop a race.

Any kart jumping the start two (2) times will be moved to the back.

Do not approach the started or scoring judges during a race.

SPORTSMANSHIP

 

Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.

Rough driving will not be tolerated. Anyone called for rough driving will be sent to the pits. Two (2) offenses in the same night will result in disqualification for that night.

Any conduct, by children, kart owners, parents, pit crews, etc., towards another child, parent, pit crew, etc, deem inappropriate will be disqualified for that race night and/or for the remainder of the season. This includes going to another competitor’s pit area. If a situation arises, notify an official immediately and let them handle it.

Any conduct by children, kart owners, parents, pit crews, etc., deemed inappropriate towards any racing official will be barred from the premises for the remainder of the season and will forfeit all points, trophies, etc. Any discussion with any official must be in a normal voice and manner.

Alcoholic beverages are not allowed in the pit area.

Refusal to have Kart inspected will result in loss of points for the entire race season and a one (1) week suspension.

ENGINE PROTESTING

 

All Stock and 3HP Class Engines are subject to Protest.

Any Go-Kart not adhering to the Protest Procedure will be barred from the premises for the remainder of the season and will forfeit all points and trophies accumulated.

Protested Engine must finish in the top four (4) of the Main Race. Only the top four (4) finishers can be protested.

Designated Track officials or Tech Inspector has the right to Protest any engine.

PROTEST PROCEDURES

 

Make your protest to the Track Official or Tech Inspector with in 15 minutes of the conclusion of the Main Race on Race Night.

The Track Official or Tech Inspector will inform the protested Kart owner and make arrangements to have the engine removed and given to the Tech Inspector on the night of the Protest.

The Tech Inspector will check the engine to insure compliance with the Rules and inform the Track Promoter of his findings.

If the protested engine is found to be in compliance, the individual making the protest will pay the Track Promoter the sum of fifty ($50.00) Dollars U.S. and the engine will be returned to its owner in a disassembled state.

If the protested engine is found NOT in compliance with the rules, the Engine Owner will pay the Track Promoter the sum of fifty ($50.00) Dollars U.S. and the engine will be returned to its owner in a disassembled state.

Failure to pay the Protest Fee will have the offending party banned from the Track until such time as the Protest Fee is paid in full.

All decisions of the Tech Inspector are final and non-negotiable.

SAFETY REQUIREMENTS

 

In General

 

All Karts must have at minimum, a 4-Point safety belt bolted to the frame.

All Karts must have a kill switch in front of driver within reach.

All Karts must have a kill switch mounted on the outside of the rear of the cage.

All weights must be securely mounted to the frame with kart number on weight.

Roll bar padding is highly recommended.

Markings

 

All Karts must have legible numbers, of at least six (6) inches in height, mounted on both sides & front.

Drivers

 

All drivers my wear an approved full-face safety helmet with complete eye protection.

Drivers must wear a full length protective racing suit if running alcohol. All other must wear long sleeves and pants.

Neck brace is required

Arm restraints are required.

Long hair must be restrained.

3HP BOX STOCK CLASS

 

Frames

 

Any production & Custom frame allowed.

Must be made of steel. No aluminum or titanium.

Champ karts ok. No suspension karts.

Body

 

Bodies are optional.

Fiberglass, Aluminum or steel bodies.

A Wing may be run on roof of Kart.

Feet must be protected with nose cone or tubing.

Suspension

 

No Suspension/shock/spring allowed.

Bumpers and Nerf Bars - Mandatory

 

Front and rear bumpers of max. 1” O.D. tubing are required and must cover ½ of the tires and may not exceed past the outside of tires.

Nerf bars are of max 1” O.D. tubing are required and may not extend past the outside of tires.

Bumpers and nerf bars must have rounded ends.

No sharp edges.

Roll Cages

 

A roll cage is required

Cage must be constructed of minimum ¾ in O.D.

Cage must be securely mounted to the frame.

Wheels

 

Any steel or aluminum wheels allowed.

Wheel spacers between the wheel and HUB are not allowed.

Tires

 

Turf -type Tires only. (15x6x6.50 is max size)

No after-market racing tires are allowed.

Fuel

 

Gasoline only.

No methanol.

Drive train

 

Must be live axle type

Must be chain or belt driven

Chain guard must be in place between chain and driver

Brakes

 

Must have a minimum (2) rear wheel brakes.

Brakes must be in good working order.

Must have guard in place over brake rotor.

Engine Block

 

Only 3 or 3.5hp motors

Stock blocks only

May remove governor, choke, and change air filter to racing filter design.

Keyway must be in stock position.

Flywheel must be stock

Carburetion

 

Stock Carburetors only.

No Tilloston or Mikuni carburetors.

Any exhaust is allowed. Must have flanged end

5 HP STOCK

Frames

 

Any production & Custom frame allowed.

Must be made of steel. No aluminum or titanium.

Champ karts ok. No suspension karts.

Body

Stock 5hp flywheel is stock position, with stock key.

Electric starter nut may be substituted for Recoil starter mechanism.

ALL OTHER ITEMS (coil, valves, breather, crank) MUST BE BRIGGS & STRATTON STOCK ITEMS.

Stock Stroke with a max overbore of .035

Stock Briggs Raptor or FunPower carb, any air cleaner allowed.

No machining or porting of block, head, or carburetor allowed.

B. 5hp OHV (overhead valve engine)

 

ALL STOCK COMPONENTS with following exceptions:

Stock length billet rods allowed

Max lift at the valve .256

Max overbore of .035

Stock Walbro PZ carb only.

Clutch

 

Any type except wet-clutches.

Carburetion

 

Stock Carburetors only.

No Tilloston or Mikuni carburetors.

Any exhaust is allowed. Must have flanged end.

Great to hear that you are adding karts Owen, they have produced a great class of Thunder drivers over the years and have a couple from our first year with karts now running in the Limited Modifieds.

 

I would strongly recommend that you replace the stock connecting rod with the billet rod, it has seemed to be the weak spot on the briggs motor.
