A-ROCKET Posted December 16, 2007 Report Share Posted December 16, 2007 Again Mr. mfbarnes, great pictures, I forgot about the # 8 car, correct me if I am wrong but this car was similar to the # 3 Falcon car as it was a cut down Fairlane or later Falcon body. Who drove this car? Also I remenber in the late 60's there were still a few 37' Chevy coupes racing, who drove the red 37' with the name "The Red Baron" on the car, I also think it may have had either a Maltese Cross or Snoopy painted on the car, possibly # 27. It appears to say 'Green Hornet" on the hood, and the number visible is a 3, half of his number. The second car is probably Page Reynolds (or possibly McLaren, depending on the year) in Pancho Locklin's #9 car; the pic is taken in Jackson, Mississippi. But I don't remember the stands that high off turn 4 at Meyer. The style of the catch fence and the height of the stands looks coming off four at Jackson. Also the inside reminds me of the entrance to the pits at Jackson. The pic below you previously posted definitely looks like Jackson, and I see similarities to the Locklin picture: Nevertheless, these old pics are great. I remember an article in some old magazine that talked about the supermodifieds and mentioned McLaren. I saw something else that stated he may have relocated to the Fredericksburg, Texas (In the hill country northwest of San Antonio) area in the 80's. RETrott Posted December 16, 2007 Report Share Posted December 16, 2007 (edited) The # 8 Car pictured at Meyer Spdwy/Houston is a late '60s era Modified/Modified Stock Car, with what appears like a modified late '50s Ford body. The gentleman squatting down on the left side looks like Bill Brashear. Looking into the car from the left side is Charlie Schild, and behind Charlie is Larry Schild. Most likely, Larry Schild is the driver, at least at the time of the picture. Does anyone know? Is the 55 by chance the car that Buddy Evans drove? Not that I recall Buddy. I remember three Modifieds he drove that were # 55, that car is not one of them. But, it could be one I missed. Your really making me go through some cobwebs to remember this stuff... #55 is a dirt car that a guy named Quinton drove at Big H for Bill Brasher when it first opened up. car is parked against the back fence of the race track.....Now then I really had to think about the pictures of pancho's car...90% sure those pictures were taken at the old Baton Rouge track. Never watched supers run there ,but went to lots of late model races there. Was asked to drive a super there for JC Smith back in 70's but my dad wouldn't let me.Alan Porter started driving the car 2 weeks later at Meyer....#4 car.......I believe that JC is Beau Smith's dad. He should have some good pictures of the cars from the old houston modified racing assoc. days. His dad or grandpa used to run the old upright cars and was darn good. I was there te first time Lippy drove. Grandpa had to Qualify car to get in show and lippy drove. J C Smith sounds cobweb familiar, but I don't think all those Smith guys were related. At least not to each other. Wasn't Baton Rouge a 5/8 mile?
