The following statement regarding the driver checks for the August 4 races at Corpus Christi Speedway is being issued by Shelma Walton, CCS Owner:

First of all, we apologize for the delay in getting the checks issued for last week's races at CCS. We had hoped to get the checks to you earlier this week, but unfortunately many of our drivers still haven't received their checks.

We had over 75 cars race with us on our opening night under new ownership, and we really appreciate the great show put on by the drivers. As drivers signed in at the pit gate, we attempted to get all of them to fill out new registration and tax forms.

The final results were not completed until Tuesday night due to a lack of registration by some of the drivers and driver changes throughout the evening. The final results were sent to our accountant in Oklahoma on Tuesday night, and the checks were mailed on Wednesday night (picked up by Post Office on Thursday morning). We had hoped that the checks would arrive by Saturday. However, we understand that most of the drivers have not received them yet. Hopefully they will arrive by Monday.

In the future, we will have cashier’s checks delivered to the track by 3:00 p.m. the following Tuesday. Rick Day, Race Director, may be contacted at 210-845-6764 to make arrangements to pick up driver checks at the track. The remaining checks will be available at the pit gate the following Saturday. The drivers will need to sign for their checks. If a driver is unable to pick up his or her check, an authorization form must be completed to give the check to another person.

All checks that are not picked up the following Saturday will be put in the mail the next day.

Again, we apologize for any inconvenience and ask for your patience in this situation. We hope you choose to continue racing with us at Corpus Christi Speedway.

First, they were mailed out tuesday? Now you say that they weren't mailed out until thursday morning? Did someone really assume that these checks would actually be received by saturday? ;)

And what about the touring series/out-of-towners? What kind of time frame should they usually expect to receive their pay after a race?

Have you ever thought about sticking with something that is proven to work, other accountants even use it. Pay people the same night, as has been done for many years, make a receipt and have it signed, (like the yocums did), or have checks pre-written and passed out after the show, as did this chiropracter, and now dirt track operator did a few years ago.

I was just wondering. Did any of the out of town drivers recieve their checks yet? None of the local drivers have gotten their checks yet so was just wondering about the out of towners cause i hear that most of them had.

As of about noon on Saturday, no. I'm sure it will show up on Monday. This is probably just one of those kinks that will inevitably come up and be worked out be a new track owner.

Tom,

It's called interest...the longer they can keep the money in the bank and delay, the more interest made...from accounting and business 101... B)

Don't want to tell anyone how to run their bussiness, but the driver's are your customers and they don't like change that they have no control over. If change is needed it should be discussed in the driver's meeting.

I know you have alot on your plate with this new track.......remember "Keep the Driver's happy" if you want them to show up. The last owner (before Donnie & Carol took it back) took weeks to pay out, then you had to race it to the bank. That helped make STS what a success it is today

Hope for the Asphalt drivers your able to keep it going......They are a loyal group of guys, just tell them the truth up front because they really read well and will catch any changes from one post to another

Best of Luck :)

OK, now I'm not so sure...since it's Monday and the check has not arrived. Maybe Tuesday???

Debbie, would the track owners be interested in adding something to this explanation regarding when the gas cards were mailed. The idea was to help the traveling cars offset some of their travel costs by giving them a $30 gas card. By now, they have already travelled back home and to their home track and back again.

Did the cards have to be mailed from the accountant in Oklahoma also? In an earlier post, Ms. Walton had indicated that the cards were sponsored.

Thanks
