Saturday July 24 Race Recap at CC Speedway

After getting a late start for the season and then missing three weeks due to rain, CC Speedway, the Fastest Quarter Mile Asphalt Track in Texas, was back in action on Saturday night.

The first race of the evening was the Texas Thunder Heat Race. With a full field inversion after Time Trials, Chip Harmon (11) and Bluff Rat Shawn Bourland (96) start on the pole but by the time the first lap was complete Pappy Green (13) and GB Carter (77) had already worked their way to the front and Gage Guevara (50) and Nelly Kelly (88) shuffle back and forth for mid pack position. Meanwhile Roger Davis (91) spins going into turns 3 & 4, but he collects the car and gets back on the gas as we stay green flag racing. As the white flag waves into turn 1, Pappy leads the race but GB hits the gas out of turn 2 and moves to the outside of Pappy and starts to pass. As they round turns 3 & 4 GB completes the pass and takes the checkered flag for the win.

Next came the Super Street Heat Race and with a full field invert after Time Trials we find Troy Vela (20), Greg Carlucci Sr, (84) Greg Carlucci Jr (24) at the back of the pack at the end of lap one but Troy Vela quickly moves from the back to the front and passes on the inside for the lead out of turn 4 as Hector Aguirre (6) is dropping back fast and Mo Beta (38) spins in turn 3 kicking up tire smoke but gathers the car and hits the gas as we stay green flag racing. By Lap four Greg Carlucci Jr moves into 2nd place and is closing in on the Troy Vela. With two laps to go the Troy Vela still leads as the Carlucci's 34 & 84 are chasing behind him. Moving in on lap traffic Troy Vela holds on for the checkered flag followed close behind by Greg Carlucci Jr and Greg Carlucci Sr.

As the Green Flag flies on the Bomber Heat Race Johnny Thomas (00) leads the field and Larry Requilman (27) quickly moves into 2nd. On lap three Johnny Thomas breaks down and Larry Requilman moves into the lead followed by Ernie Villegas (25). On lap four Mark Villarreal Jr (6), spins which brings out the caution. On the restart Larry Requilman leads the field and Mike Lee (44) starting from the back has moved into forth but soon moves up to third. Larry Requilman takes the checkered flag as Shorty Nagel (7) cruises in second with Mike Lee coming in third.

The next event of the evening was Australian Pursuits' beginning with the Texas Thunder Class. With the wave of the green flag Gage Guevara (50) got a little anxious and started passing cars before the white stripe and was removed from the pursuit. On lap three Nelly Kelly (88) makes the her move passing Ronald Deleon (99) but the yellow flag comes out when Nelly Kelly pulls into turn four a little to hot and gets into the back of Johnny Guerra (29) sending him spinning and Nelly Kelly was removed from the pursuit. When the green flag flies again Johnny Guerra leads the field of cars with Ronald Deleon and GB Carter (77) closing in. Johnny Guerra loses it out of turn four as Ronald Deleon and GB Carter maneuver past on the inside. On lap seven GB Carter makes his move around Ronald Deleon putting him out and GB Carter goes on to take the checkered flag on this Australian Pursuit.

As the Super Street Class kicks off their Australian Pursuit Troy Henseik (66) takes the green but is soon passed as Greg Carlucci Sr (84) takes the lead and Nelly Kelly (88) pulls to the infield. On lap five Greg Carlucci Sr is followed by Troy Vela (20) and Greg Carlucci Jr (34). On lap six Hector Aguirre (6) pulls off the track. With two laps to go the Troy Vela is a little to quick out of turn four and spins Greg Carlucci Sr as the yellow flag comes out and Troy Vela is removed from the race. With the restart on lap nine Greg Carlucci Sr is being chased by Greg Carlucci Jr who is in second and Mo Beta (38) in third all the way to the checkered.

As the Bomber Class starts the Australian Pursuit Larry Requilman (27), Ernie Villegas (25), Johnny Thomas (00), and Mark Villarreal Jr (6) take the green flag. By the end of lap two both Johnny Thomas and Mark Villarreal Jr had left the track. By the end of lap five Ernie Villegas had moved to the infield leaving the Larry Requilman wondering were everybody had gone as he takes his second checkered flag of the evening.

With lightning in the back ground and the threat of rain the Green Flag waves on the Texas Thunder Feature Race as Chip Harmon (11) finds himself slowing dropping back from his pole position. Pappy Green (13) moves into first with Nelly Kelly (88) following in second. Lap four finds Gage Guevara (50) and Ronald Deleon (99) battling for mid pack position and GB Carter (77) is heading towards the front. By lap five GB Carter has come from the back into second and is chasing down Pappy Green. GB Carter soon catches Pappy Green and they are battling side by side, putting on a great show of synchronized racing. On the final lap Pappy Green and GB Carter are still running neck to neck as they run into lap traffic which is trying to get out of the way as the leaders close in on them. GB Carter gives a slight bump and run to pass the traffic and Pappy Green for the lead. As they head down the back straight GB Carter is working the outside line as Pappy Green tries one more time to pass on the inside as they round turn four. GB Carter sees the checkered flag but Pappy Green isn't giving up as he jumps up high trying to get around lap traffic and gets into some gravel causing his car to get loose sliding him around and he collides with Chip Harmon on the start/finish line for a second place finish as GB Carter sweeps the Texas Thunder race events at CC Speedway.

As we moved to the Super Street Feature race Troy Henseik (66) brings the field to the green flag. As Mo Beta (38) passes for the lead in turn one, Troy Henseik (66) drops back and spins in turn four, bringing out the yellow flag. On the restart Mo Beta brings the field to the green flag with Troy Vela (20) following close behind. Mo Beta spins on lap three as we stay green flag but when Troy Vela slows to miss Mo Beta, Greg Carlucci Sr passes on the outside for the lead leaving Troy Vela in second place position. On the next lap Mo Beta stalls in turn two which brings out the yellow flag. As the green flag drops on the restart get back to racing on lap four Nellie Kelly (88) Mo Beta get together but we stay green flag racing. Greg Carlucci Sr (84) and Troy Vela battle past lap traffic with Troy Vela coming in second as Greg Carlucci Sr works to hang onto first as he takes the checkered flag.

As the green flag waves on the Bomber Feature Race Johnny Thomas (00) and Jennifer Nagel (07) bring the field around for lap one. Johnny Thomas trying to hold onto his lead gets squirrelly going into turn three and bumps Jennifer Nagel and Johnny Thomas ends up in the infield as Jennifer Nagel just misses the outside wall. The rest of the field checks up and makes it through without further incident and Larry Requilman (27) moves into the lead. On lap 6 Anthony Monroe (82) does a few donuts in turns 3 & 4 but manages to gather the car and we stay green. Again on lap Anthony Monroe makes more 360s in between turns 3 & 4. On lap thirteen Jennifer Nagel pulls to the infield as the fire crew unleashes a fire extinguisher on the underside of her car. Larry Requilman brings it around to take the checkered flag by storm followed by David McGuire (42) and Shorty Nagel (7) and Larry Requilman sweeps all three bomber race events of the evening.

All in all it was a great night of racing and a great feeling to see the bright lights on once again at CC Speedway, The Fastest Quarter Mile Asphalt Track in Texas!

Thanks

It was a great experience to get back to CC Speedway and now I know what it is that makes it so different than most other tracks and thas the close quarters racing. You never get a real clear track to yourself because there is always cars around you.Its definately a give and take deal, you have to respect the other cars at all times.I was lucky in time trials, seems like all the other cars had carburator problems, probably because of being out for a while.I have been running on a fast dirt track all year so my car had no bugs.By race time most cars were running good again.I spent most of the heat and feature looking at that tail on the 13 car wagging. If not for traffic and the fact that 2nd place sometimes has the advantage in traffic situations,he would have easily won both. This new track surface is increadable, its so smooth and has fantastic grip. That bomer race was a real shootout and what a race, must have been like that when Jr Johnson was outrunning those revenuers. Its no surprise so many people want to race here, its a drivers track and intensly exciting behind the wheel. And just to add a little more excitment, after time trials, they did a full invert.By the way Mader,Pro sedan cars can run as an invited class by simply bolting on a set of street tires. Now you can afford that, cant you? See you on your off nite. G.B.

hey mike why would someone wanna run tps if they buy a set of slicks that would cost them about 400.00 dollars and go run you know they wont win maybe top 5 they would spend all that traveling cost and with gas so high these days and look at tps pay out anyone could make more money running at the local track than out of town with tps i mean they have 12 cars now what is it another 8 and the purse at cc goes up

Gentlemen: You need to understand the Texas Pro Sedans tire rule and purse structure.

For the record, ever since the 2004 season and right up through the rest of the 2006 season, C.C. Speedway cars have had the option to compete in TPS races with either their DOT tires - or - equip their car with TPS specified Hoosier 13" tires.

The exact wording of the invitation goes like this: INVITED CARS ... CCS Thunder & Mini Stock cars accepted provided in compliance with their 2006 rules with the following upgrade optional exceptions. May use: TPS 13” Hoosier Racing Tires, after-market suspension parts, lock drive wheels.

Notes: These allowance were suggested by a regular CCS driver, G.B Carter. Will Robertson's Neon had 4 DOT tires and placed 4th in a TPS race at C.C. Motor Speedway on April 9, 2005.

Regarding purses, the TPS race winners on July 15, 2006 at San Antonio Speedway collectively took home more than $1,000. For upcoming 30 lap races on October 7 at San Antonio Speedway and October 28 at Thunder Hill Raceway - the TPS Race Bulletin will post $1,000 to win at each race.

Now - we are all on the same page with correct information.

We are going to tackle it this weekend, (I think) and hope for the best. Can't afford to have then emginges getting that hot too many times. We will be at SAS and as ready as we can be!!

we had a problem in sas and it was the upper hose if you can bilieve that if the water isnt getting it may be that thermo or something blocking the radiator passage and keeping the intake side from letting water flow . how much water pressure does that motor need .you may have to much cap on it .i dont know much about you set up on hondas .but hell im trying .how good is that radiator . if you have a didgital thermomitor run the motor and test defferent places on the radiator . and going from and to the motor .you may find something there .
